  1. Hi guys. Posting here in the hope that I may be able to find a colony of these guys or some fry i could purchase?
  2. Playing around with my phone camera. Thought I would upload some fish that were given too me. I needed some yellow for display. These are hongi X electric yellow. Just goes to show that hybrids are not always so easy to spot. And they are not always something that looks like a mix of parents. In spawn dress these could almost pass for flavus. Very strong black bars.
  3. I was trying to catch prawns in the Brisbane River and happened to catch this guy. Can someone give me an id on this fish, and what it might eat? It looks to me like some type of predator fish... possibly a stone fish or bullrout? Thanks to all the following posters for helping to identify the fish as a QLD groper. The fish was returned to the river in good health.
  4. Hello all, I have. 4ft 125 gal tank. I'm having an issue were my water after 4,5 days after a WC goes a yellow brownie colour. I have just put a brand new eheim 2075 on the tank and currently seeding it for about 4 days from a Aqua nova cf-1200. Tank has a fully grown Oscar, 3 silver dollars, nimbochromis venustus, 3 peacocks, adult synodontis, adult loach, 2 bristlenose, black convict. Pretty heavily stocked but I figured my filters could handle it. So my question is could it be just my eheim doesn't have enough bacteria to handle the bioload yet and my other filter is struggling a bit to handle it all. Or I'm too overstocked and should remove some fish? My parameters are good, Ph: 7.0 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5ppm Kh: 5 Any info would be helpful thank you, I also have a small piece of golden vine but I have had that in there for 4 months and it never stained the water previously. 5. About 2 weeks after we got our electric yellows, we noticed one was holding ... so we got a small tank and learnt how to strip her. Long story short, we're pretty sure they're hybrid babies ... anyone have any idea what she's crossed with? They each have small white markings down their sides, they appear to have a different body shape to the mum but perhaps that's because they're still juvies. They're around 1 and a half months old and 1.5cm in size approx. Picture of mum (holding) below.
  6. hi guys, is the cynotilapia cobue the same fish as the one being marketed as yellow afra ?
  7. So i got a batch of 1cm electric yellows, today i notice one of the bigger one has black dorsal and anal fin, just like a mature male yellow would have but not as solid. Is it safe to say that it could be a male?
  8. Hi All, It's been a while, I'd lost interest but a mate has got me keen into the africans again. Anyway, I used to breed yellows and all the yellows I saw (lfs, breeders, anywhere) were nice and bright. Is it just me, or are there some faded/light yellows out there, I remember them being almost fluro even with standard/cheap food?
  9. I just stripped my yellow and I have done this before third time now and she is swimming up and down the tank like she has air in her mouth I am 100% I got all the fry as my wife had the phone light on. She still has her beucal sack enlarged like she is holding if it's air will it go away I dont want to touch her again she's stressed out enough already. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk

  11. Hi all you shrimp heads I have always only kept RCS for the purpose of helping raise SA/CA fry and help me with the gardening. Anyhow, I have recently set up another hi-tech planted environment and have added nurtured a group of very red RCS to this tank. Lately I have noticed a few different looking RCS within the group and would like to know what you guys think. I know not much about shrimp so here a few questions... 1. Are these anything special (blurry iPhone pics below)? 2. Should I bother separating them out to line breed? 3. If yes to the above two questions, what would the 'hopeful' end result be? Thanks, Rob
  12. Hi Have around 17 yellow cherries I purchased about a month ago, was pretty happy a few days ago when one berried up. Just noticed now I have a young one that has black inside it's head, don't think it's a little saddle, pretty sure it is its internals. So has anybody else ever had this? Is it a bad sign? Cheers
  13. I have a female electric yellow holding. I moved her into a tank with a small shy ellioti about 3cm, a very small julidochromis transcriptus 2cm and a ****feldi about 4-5cm. I have a back wall completely stacked with lava rocks. She has given me offspring before as she was holding when I purchased her. so my Question: will she spit with these fish in the tank.
  14. Hi guys I've just got give some Parachromis Friedrichsthalli yellow Jacket Cichlids Just wondering if anyone keeps these or know anything about them? Had a look on google but couldn't find much. Cheers
  15. Hello Everyone Just curios to some information on some fish that are being traded as "pure electric" Electric Yellows" does anyone have any info on these and where are they from? are the an electric yellow species with no black? Edited: Images were supplied by breeder as well as permission was given before posting...
  16. Hey guys, I noticed one of my yellows has a mouthful of eggs, I'm wondering how long it takes before I'll see the fry swimming around
  17. Of coarse i think he is perfect............ he's mine Have a colony of Dfishkeepers yellows now as well going to let this guy loose in there soon should get some top class fish !!! CHEERS MARK .
  18. Hey, I have what I believe is a Chain Sword in my nano tank of which lately the leaves have been turning Yellow and then Brown then finally have holes in them and some are going transparent I read this is a deficiency in iron, however I am trying to work out best way to remedy this. I have also seen this can happen with new plants as parts of the plant may not have been submerged. I fertilise once a week with my water changes. In a 25L tank should I be fertilising more often? I have no CO2 injection My filter has Carbon in it (aquaclear 20) could this be taking the fertiliser out of the tank? Any are there any consequences to the fish (Lampeyes and Mystery Snail) if i were to add more Iron? Should i also be cutting this plant back and removing all of the leaves with the brown tips/yellow leaves etc? Light is a 3.5W 6500K LED from Aquatopia, left on for 8 Hours a day. My other plants, Val and the likes appear to be going alright, but I would say arent 100% healthy. Any ideas would be great! Thanks
  19. hi all just noticed a couple of the little yellows have an indented stomach? i feed them all very well and they are all swimming around normally...what is this? there are other yellows one that is the same size and two bigger that dont have this... tried taking some shots but the little buggers wouldnt stay still...
  20. Hi, around two months ago i bought a breeding colony of 12 electric yellows and also added 9 of my own full size yellows into the tank in the hope of mouthfuls, It's been about 2 months now with no luck, water parameters are fine and i do water changes weekly and feed several times a day. Also there are plenty of females in there. Just after any helpful tips to help kick start this process, Cheers
  21. I know everyone does it and its really not that difficult once u have done it once, but yeah stripped my first fish hurray, got 21 frys. :0 all i did is open her mouth with a cut off piece of zip tie (the narrowest bit) and moved her back and forward. took a few spits but she got them all out in the end. is that how u are meant to do it or is there an easier way? do i wait for her to spit them out or will the fry swim out or both?
  22. I think my little buddy might be sick. It's been hiding a lot and just doesn't seem interested in anything. Currently he's on top of the castle laying flat on its belly. He's not going sideways, but not swimming around either. I do weekly water changes and gravel cleaning. I'm fairly new to fish keeping so I don't know if he is sick or what's going on really. I did start them on a different brand of food yesterday, but none of my other fish...or electric yellows have been affected in any way, he hasn't been attacked or anything so I'm at a loss as to what's going on.
