Hi, hoping someone can give me some info on sexing freddies without having to get them out and vent them. Are there any tell tale signs for either sex?

If they are a decent size there are the usual tell tale signs for Parachromis species.

Posting some pics would be your best bet.

I've got 4 in a 6x2. Two of them have coloured up- the ones in the pic. They always swim together and go round digging and cleaning rocks. The other two are not as colourful (one of them in the pic), and they spend most the time hiding.

The males have more elongated dorsal and anal fins which all your fish pictured appear to have.

Also Look for black markings in their dorsal fins like these two girls...

You may also find that males will tend to hide and lay on the bottom more so than females. This is a trait in the genes as in nature they actually play dead to attract pray. They are ambush predators.
