unheatedtank
Hi, just got a 2cube and found out that I don't have a 2x2 wooden board. Can I put the foam and the tank on top of the two metal bar like in the pic? Thanks...
Lictoga
How thick is the foam?
unheatedtank
Quite thick, look like the one I got from aquariumsus... Around 2cm
Lictoga
I would wait. But it might be ok. Are you desperate for tank space?
unheatedtank
I would wait. But it might be ok. Are you desperate for tank space? No I am not desperate, and head your advise to go to Bunnings tomorrow eve for a wooded board. 2cube is quite heavy, and it is under a 6x2x2.5 which weights heap. unheatedtank
Is 9mm marine plywood good enough? Or do I need to go 19mm, reason is I have limited space only 70cm for 60cm tank + 2cm foam, so every fm counts or I won't be able to put my hand and shoulder in the tank AA Grade 1220 x 610 x 9mm Hardwood Marine Plywood I/N 0320027 | Bunnings Warehouse
grant.long
9mm should be fine with that foam.

Craigo
Dont stress mate. I Had my 8x2x2 sitting on just the pallet racking beams for years, with my whole breeding rack consisting of 6x18x18 & 7 3x18x18's all sitting the same way for years & now have 6x2x30 & 6x2x2 sitting the same way, nothing underneath them. I might be the one doing this wrong, but I was shown by a major breeder who had nothing under all his tanks except for the beams…… Your choice & I can appreciate why you want to be on the side of cation, but I have had no problems. smicko
I have a two tier four ft that only has beams supporting them, i bought it second hand and got it from a guy that's been breeding and running tanks this way for 30 years or more, not the same setup obviously. They only have strips of foam along the beams, not a full sheet. I like them, if i didn't have sand in the top tank the light penetrates to the bottom tank. All my other setups have ply bases just make sure you seal it. Cheers mick
unheatedtank
Hi, I got a 61x61cm x18mm marine rate ply with a coat of marine mineral varnish. How many coats should I do for this base? It said on the can that I should wait to 24hrs for the next coat, so a day a coat lol
