Anthony93
..Hey guys my hood on my tank is bowing lots. I'm not sure why but I'm thinking because of the heat that gets trapped in the house. Is there any way to stop this happening or fix it.
fishfish
Wow that's descent. Does the hood have a clear coat of paint or something on it to seal it? Drill some holes in the back to let the heat out
Lictoga
Caused by the moisture in the tank, I'm guessing that it's raw timber with no sealant?
fishfish
Pine will be bad for moisture
Anthony93
I'm pretty sure it's just pine and no it has no clear coat or paint
Lictoga
Take it off seal it probs have to replace the lid. You got to look after your wood
fishfish
Yeah I agree I don't think that lid will fix itself. Gotta stain/paint or clear coat pine especially being around moisture all the time
Anthony93
I wanted to stain the wood do you still put sealant on after or if staining that's all it needs
Lictoga
Pick a stain you like and depending what it is will determine wether it needs a clear coat.
fishfish
An external decking stain would be really good to seal it
Anthony93
Ok thanks guys I'm gonna take the lid part off and sit outside in the heat on some boards to see if the bowing might come back a bit
Heintz.G
Unscrew the front part of the lid then spray it with water, put it on the concrete with bricks on top for a day or two, that should flatten it out. You can also glue and screw ribs on it length ways that would stop it from bowing again.
Lictoga
Could use heat and steam some clamps and strong flat surface that you can clamp to, to flatten it back out but it's much easer and no where near as long to just by a new peice
Anthony93
I'll see how i go if I can flatten it again if not then ill just go buy a new piece.

Radical
Heintz is on the right track... Soak it in water then let it dry in the shade make sure air can circulate all around it, stand it up as close to vertical as you can and take the rest of the hood off and seal it before the same thing happens to it as well. or just go to Bunnings and buy a new piece its cheap and a lot faster...
