Forest Lake Pest Fishing

Recommended Posts

No it was cancelled - we're aiming for Feb/March to have another crack at it. There are some FB pics for the one back in May, but it was too cold for the Tilapia back then.

and the catch stats are here -

Silver Perch are NOT a local native to this area and are only there through stocking - exactly the same way Barred Grunters got there!
That's quite true, I hadn't stopped to think about. In Qld they're only native to western rivers aren't they? I've updated the table accordingly. Edited by PeterJ

Um my Mother-in-law who knows her fish reckons she saw a huge carp in Forest Lake this week, I believe her as she and my late father in law used to love carp fish where they live in Spain, except over there you throw em back in as they are meant to be there. So looks like we have another species to content with in the lake. Bugger.

If anyone needs some fishing practice then please come down to Robina lakes as unfortunately seems the tilapia are taking over. Saw schools of 20-40 small fish plus a few big ones whilst bass fishing this morning. A donut on the bass and tilapia.

Where abouts at robina? live near but did not know any fishing worthwhile in lakes. Do you need a permit, if so where do you get one? peter m

The tilapia are throughout the system. Seen them just walking along the lake at the back of Robina town centre. Also barred grunter in there which im told are easily caught using worms as bait. The Robina lakes system connects to the salt water over near Carrara markets where there is a loch system to let boats come and go. Annually they were stocking bass but dont know if thats still happening. Heaps of fish in there but you mpstly only hear of the bull sharks in there

Just it's a reminder, Forest Lake is on the weekend after next. We have our general meeting at the Bar Jai this Friday night. Our guest speakers are Glynn Aland who's talking about feral fish and Gavin Brown who show us how to identify and handle native turtles as well us show us some of the less traveled places they live.
