Converting whiting to freshwater?

Recommended Posts

So, I go fishing with my father sometimes, and he catches big rays sharks mulloway and sometimes sand whiting. I usually catch the sand whiting, and was wondering: can they be converted to freshwater or close to it, and how long would it take. This is the tank I would plan to put it in with the Barra. Note it is murky because the sand Is settling.871801081adfe75f3e9c54499b25cb33.jpg

I looked into this on a large scale for raising fingerlings a few years ago. They need salt water & very clean salt water. I think attempting this will only lead to the fish's death.

i would rather eat a good sized whiting them watch it suffer :)

Whiting can go into fresh but only for a short time. They do live in brackish throughout their range and keeping them in a brackish aquarium can be done. Use marine salt not pool salt. Hatchlings available from time to time are from Aquaculture. Size limits apply to certain species.
