-Dayz-
2days ago another female was being chased an another last min grabbed all fish in a container, stripped all the def males then the ones i was unsure of (my pure white oranda is a male wahh ) then the female being chased. Not many maybe 107 eggs if counted correctly (already chased for couple hours) put a airstone in the corner after rinse the eggs. Checked today an most are white but a few are clear yellow an with a torch i can see 2 eyes an a wriggling black line rather happy have only about 7-15 fertile (some are in the spawning mop i made so cant count yet) white eggs have been taken out, i have a microworm culture ready an waiting
goldenswimmers
good luck mate and love to see the progress...Ive used live brine shrimp too with great success(but just be weary of the shells and unhatched guys which are bad for the little fellas!)....So what are the parents mate?...Im thinking ones an oranda???... frannles
That's great! Hope you end up with more than you expect! Wait until the fry are free swimming and then feed them. They need time to absorb their egg sac I've also used freshly hatched brine shrimp for the fry. That's like steroids! Get lots of growth real quick and their much more stronger as well. Best of luck! netty_3164
Good stuff mate, agreed with frannles, the orange oranda isn't too bad, pump them up with some tender love and ...FOOD & you might be surprised at how they turn out. You've still got a few months left of warmer temps so I would expect a few more spawns
-Dayz-
Yea hes the only nice looking one. The white is the newest an just looks cool how you can see through his head growth which makes it hard to take a pic of (need a better camera this iphone 4 just isnt cutting it) Will you always be able to see through whites growth or will it get colour with age? What would be the best live food for them? They are only young fish so i hope he grows well. His growth seems to only be on the top of his head, will it bubble down or just stay like a hat? goldenswimmers
mate there some nice little orandas....so you have nice fish already.....they only get better with time too..live food for the babies or the adults mate? the headgrowth will probably stay clear/white..you can a lemon colour on white orandas in the headgrowth but you see that at a young age...your guy looks like its going to be all white..nice stuff and great fish...the headgrowth can be on the top or all over...have a closer look and you will be able to get a rough idea of how its going to grow(in other words you cant just make one part grow more by choice)..it will follow the pattern thats in place already if that makes sense good luck with the babies mate
-Dayz-
Live food for the adults I have another female just started being chased 10mins ago (hopefully they stop in the spawning mops) I rather like white male, im excited to see what he will look like. goldenswimmers
live food for adults would be along the lines of insects....mosquito larvae, worms etc...they are not predatory but are opportunistic and have a heavy part of their diet dedicated to the green stuff..duckweed,plants etc...so it would be that and insects in the wild(and any oppportunity feeds!).... -Dayz-
They get duckweed and they have live plants in the tank they nibble on. I did have some stagnant water but tipped it 2days ago cause it had larva in it. I can get worms
frannles
Nice! If you can get your hands on some brine shrimp eggs and hatch them it would be the best food for the little ones to start on. Even the frozen baby brine shrimp is ok too. Defrost the cubes in some water and squirt a bit in using a syringe. Feed them til their little bellies turn orange from the brine shrimp and feed often as they grow heaps! For the adults I agree with goldenswimmers, mosquito larvae are really great! If not, bloodworms are as good as they are also a type of mosquito larvae. You can encourage lemon head colourings on the white oranda with some NLS pellets as that is high in krill. That's what I've heard but haven't had the opportunity to try as I can't find nice looking pure white orandas! Must be looking in the wrong place
-Dayz-
They are still alive Keep counting a couple times a day as i only have 4 but they are doing well swimming all around the tank and i watch them picking things off the plants an eating microworms from the tank floor plus when i first squirt some in i can see them mouthing then eating them so im rather happy. May only be 4 fry but at least i know they have plenty of growing room and wont be competing for food. I will try get some frozen brine shrimp. I had green water but dont think it will be ready in time (fresh green leaf blended with water in bottle in sun to speed up process)
