How Much Light Do I Need?

Recommended Posts

A small two footer tank with water level 34cm deep. Planted with a large Blue Stricta, and Ambulia, and Wisteria all large enough to reach surface level.

Have above tank on glass lid one single 18W tropical temperate flouro for all of this. Light does reach gravel floor of tank.

Should I go a twin flouro system with two complementary light spectrum tubes?

Yes I agree with bluebelle and the plants you have at the moment aren't high light demanding, especially with the distance between the light and the substrate, but if you are looking for good results you can invest in plant substrate of fertilizers.

Oh and don't feel bad when/if the Stricta dies it's not a true aquatic plant, they're classified as a temporary aquatic plant, you could also consider tying some moss to the b/n log in the front. When the Ambulia grows out of control just trim it and plant the cuttings.
