Siamese algea eaters

Recommended Posts

Hi there all. I'm interested in purchasing a few Siamese algea eaters but have looked on the net and have found out that there is a true Siamese Algea eater and a false one. Does anyone know where I can purchase the true species as the false one may be a more aggressive fish and does not eat as much algea.

The "Real" Siamese Flying Fox, (Epalzeorhynchus siamensis) Or Siamese algae eater are distinguished by the characteristic black mid-lateral stripe running all the way through the tail. It grows to a maximum size of approximately 14cm. This species is renowned for its ability to consume hair algae.

The "False" Siamese Flying Fox, the mid-lateral black stripe does not go all the way through the tail, so when you go looking at the lfs some will call it a true flying fox just keep an eye out for that.
