Naturally I opened it up and had a look (actually opened/closed/retried many times just in case it was being temperamental). Can't see anything like a blockage, impeller looks fine. Dirty in there, but nothing untoward. It's working again, but is still noisy. Guess it really was just being temperamental after all.
