63off
Not so sure that the mix of fish you have is appropriate as most Africans like more of their own species around them. I always think it's best to have 4 or 5 of one species than 4 or 5 individuals. But as to your food question you can definitely add some vegetables to their diet. Zucchinis, peas, pumpkin will all work well but it's always trial and error as to what yours prefer. Weigh them down somehow, an old wire coat hanger cut into a long U shape with the 2 prongs stuck into the zucchini or pumpkin and the other end anchored under a rock works well. Malawis are more vegetable oriented than meat so look for frozen foods that include a high vegetable content. There's a frozen cichlid dinner that they love that you can use as variation on top of the Spectrum. If you feed any meat keep it very low fat, like brine shrimp or black worm, and keep chicken and beef heart out of the tank entirely. They might go for it but it's not good for them. Hope that helps. cod
I'd say as 63off said, zuchini ect will be ok. Electric yellows for instance are mostly vegeterian, will get bloat if fed blood worm treats or fed protien pellets. But then like your Venustus are more predatory, and will get better colours with higher protien diet and more meat, blood worm ect. So with your mix of fish you'd have to stay with the more vege oriantated foods. P.S. dont forget to wash any veges before putting in tank to help get rid of chemicals on them, also cut in half usaully best, they like the insides not the skin.
