Eddie_JYB
Do you guys think 10mm acrylic is thick enough for 2 x 1 window in a a 1200L Pond?
aquaholic99
The thickness you require depends on water depth. I would recommend polycarbonate over acrylic if flex will be required.
aquaholic99
If your tank walls are very rigid, acrylic is fine but if your tank walls will flex ( IBC, wood, fiberglass etc) then polycarbonate is best. Acrylic is rated at 13 times the strength of float glass so 10mm acrylic is the equivalent of 130mm float glass. I would halve that to provide a better safety margin though. And larger sized panels also need to be taken into account.
Eddie_JYB
Only 2ft deep. will polycarbonate be much more expensive and easy to source?
Eddie_JYB
The pond is rectangle about 6 x 4 x 2, has ridges around the top 15cms or so and is made out of HMWPE.
aquaholic99
Polycarbonate is only slightly more expensive but has the added benefit of being UV stable if you choose the right product. 6mm thickness is fine for what you want as I use 6mm on 4 foot deep poly rain water tanks. I can PM you a supplier if that helps?
Eddie_JYB
Yeah that would be great, thanks!
aquaholic99
Use curved corners on your tank cut out to reduce chances of splitting. The viewing panel should go on inside so pressure works in your favour so it's corners won't matter. Don't fully tighten your screws until the silicon hardens. Your using the silicon to make a gasket seal. Silicon doesn't stick to PE very well, even if rough.
