yeah. the closer picture confirms its a texas cichlid.

they actually grow quite large and are aggressive like the majority of large american cichlids.

african and american cichlids require different water conditions buuuuut some people still say they can be kept together but i wouldnt recomend it.

the texas will end up bulling the african cichlids and if your planning on breeding the dolphins it could spell trouble down the track.

Well in TED...

-This is why this forum is so good, u have just stopped a mass killing.. As he said Africans and American don't mix..

Do some research on which one your most keen on Sophiaczarkowski and set up for that as they are both different.

At least you found out before it killed everything.. Good luck

Wow thanks everyone. The now texas cichlid was sold to me as a peacock - I've had him for about 2 years - he had a friend originally also sold as a peacock but the friend ended up in solitary due to aggression he escaped and was killed by the Texas. Meaning the texas was the only fish in the 3ft tank for a long time. It's a touch choice but he may have to go...I don't really want a mass murderer in my fish tank. I have seen the Dolphins do the mating dance mouth to tail and circling a number of times. So it may be time to pass the fish to a friend or back to the Pet Shop.

Thank you again so much for your help! And for stopping a mass murder.

....Wow really!!! That fish is 2 years old?? In proper conditions (eg tank size, water parameters, feeding etc) it should be upwards of 10 inches long..... strange, very strange. How big is it? Given your tank size, in the photo it looks about 3 inches? A 2 year old chould be sooo much bigger!

Hey gpodge. Yep 2 years old - it's 3in give or take. I thought it was odd as the big male blue dolphin (Fido) has been in the tank about 3months and has tripled in size already. They eat the same if anything Texas eats more - he polished off about 6 feeder fish yesterday. They get cichlid food pellets in the morning, frozen blood worms at night and feeder fish once per week as well as as much plant as they can eat / destroy. They go through 2-3 plants per week. Wow that's a lot of food when I write it all down.

Thanks matty73 it's not so bad here. Windy bit of rain. It's all happening in CQ area. It's looking like St Lawrence or higher will cop the brunt. I live in Yeppoon work in Rocky so probably have tomorrow off. We didn't feel the earthquake. I hope your tanks were okay and survived ??? And of course your house.

Stay safe and dry. Good luck.

If this is heading your way matty73 buckle down. Stock up on beer and ice. But seriously it's bad. Someone near me has lost a roof and a shed. I also scored a free bin and a tree I think it's an iron bark. Landed between house and fence - lucky!!

The eye is over Gladstone now by the look of things. It almost scarier to be in the eye as everything is dead calm after all that wind. Probably our turn Saturday.

not yet its not. Just starting to get the high winds now, she's meant to be here in 2hrs or so.
