peterw
Would appreciate if someone can give an ID on this creature. Something in a gradual metamorphosis stage? Doesn't like to be out of water. It's about 8mm long. Thanks

grubby
Yeah Dragonfly Nymph, kill it or feed it to some really big Central American cichlid. I hate those things. I had a tank full of Honey Blue eyes. I added most of them to one of my tubs, but kept a few back in reserve in the tank, just incase. Anyway they all started to disappear 1 by 1. At first I thought it might be that they had jumped, eventually I found one of those hidden in the tank. Must have come in with some mosquito larvae as an egg and grew from there. Anyway he is now inside a cichlid.

bazz
Awesome video, I had no idea about these things, it is a pity they are not more effective with tadpoles could help with the cane toad problem
peterw
Was this in a pond ???????? No. Some of my tanks are semi exposed to the outside & I've been a bit lax with lids lately what with the heat. So I guess this bloke was somehow introduced. I have had a few dragonflies entering the laundry (adjacent to the tanks ,out the back) so maybe one got curious. But yes, definitely dragonfly larvae, Google matched ,thanks everyone. BTW I think dragonflies ,to look at ,flying , are great creatures.
grubby
Oh I love Dragon flies, I just not big on the nymph in my ponds and tubs, let alone tanks.
Donny@ageofaquariums
Yep another big fan here http://www.qldaf.com/forums/off-topic-discussion-8/dragonfly-thread-87382/ But dam they can devastate fry grow outs, even cichlids under 3cm get done in by them. grubby
I go out to my Honey Blue eye tub at night with a mag light and spot for Dragon Fly Nymphs. I can usually catch them with my hands, but I read somewhere you can decapitate them with a good pair of long scissors if you are fast enough. While I am out there I bring my method/detoll spray and patrol for the garden for Cane Toads. Got 6 big toads on Saturday night, but last night all I got was toadlets, they must be coming up from the lake.
Donny@ageofaquariums
Considered setting up a little fence around the ponds? Seems to be an option being discussed a lot on landcare forums.

Thats why tubs are good. A cane toad would need a mini cherry picker to get into mine.
