Wild Aulonocara
Red desert, red quartz sand. Any thoughts on using this product for aquarium use; sand sifting Africans (made for reptiles, hermit crabs and aquariums) The grain size of red desert quartz is finer than Tahitian moon sand. litigator666
have you considered garnet sand as an alternative?
Donny@ageofaquariums
Have used the red diamond and the garnet sand before with only good results. Problem with garnet is the weight, you need a LOT of kg to do your average 6 footer! The red quartz you get about twice the volume for the same weight. The red desert reptile stuff is even dirtier than the garnet and wow do you earn the garnet cleaning it out. Even the serenity red diamond quartz stuff takes some proper rinsing to get clean. Wild Aulonocara
Its been insane cleaning the red quartz.... over an hour so far. got told that it was too sharp for sand sifters.... however i just went to a friends place to use a microscope and its bloody rounder than any sand i have ever seen... aragonite sand is 100 times sharper than the red quartz. so there is no issues with sand sifters for sure. Its like a fine powdered clay. if you add water and let it settle you will see a layer that floats on top of the sand.
