Bundyboy
Has anyone else experienced wasting disease. At first I thought my problem was parasites with my Cichlids, now I am starting to think it's much more. The more I read on the net the more concerned I am. Now that my fish have grown they seem to be dieing at a very fast rate. Within a day or so of showing signs of huge weight loss and also curving spins they are dead. All my fish were fine until I bought some Electric Yellows from a LFS which died within days of bringing them home, so I suspect they were carriers of something. Love to hear other peoples thoughts on what I should do or if anyone else has experienced this.
Donny@ageofaquariums
Worth making sure your GH and KH are at at least minimal levels. Can be a sign your fishes diet needs more amino acids and vitamins. Could still be a parasite but by nature they tend to be well hidden. Blood sucking flukes in particular. Could be worth chucking some gills bits of a fresh dead under a scope to rule them out.
saczel
I have had a similar thing before and never really found out what was happening. My guess flukes and secondary infection. Before you medicate you might want to try a good uv sterilizer suitable for your flow rate and tank size. All the meds i tried didn't do much and probably made it worse. Like donny said check your water parameters first. Another thing i tried was Avitrol plus which is a wormer that you can get from produce stores or some vets have a medication section and is what they use on chooks etc and it also worked on some fish but not others. I think i had too many things happening at once and it can get complicated.
