Ben-san
Hi, So as you can all tell i am new to this space, have moved up from south Australia about 6 years ago where a had to sell up my beloved marine set up. i am currently looking around for another, nothing that big again just a little something like the Aquareef 195? i was in MLFS (Pet city Mt Gravatt) the other day and noticed that they had one at a really good price, a price i would happily pay, all this is well and good but i have been out of the game for some time now and being out of the game means im not up to date with "what's hot and what's not" I have a few questions that i am sure all of you can shed some light on. Soooo is it a good bit of kit? I have heard that the Skimmer is not that flash? Lighting... T5 is not too bad but i would like to grow some nice Coral, should i upgrade? i used to use halide and now i see a lot of LED?? Sump, is it any good for mods? or should i sell it on and get a custom one made? Thanks in advance for all your imput. oh also, is there another model or brand/unit out there that is better as such? Thanks, Ben
brodie7744
Woohoo, another marine person to brake up all this fresh water businesses, the aquareefs are pretty start but yes the skimmers are pretty crappy, but the sumps are good so is the design of the tank its self. If you have the cash and like it, a read sea 250 May also tickle your fancy as an all in one or perhaps a cade. LEDs are indeed taking the marine side of the hobby by storm, Imo I think they out do anything especially your mid to high end LEDs. I say that because most of them are programable to tune in to your likings. Welcome mate, all the best
Donny@ageofaquariums
Welcome aboard! lol the torture of being able to browse a lfs like Pet City and not have a tank to take fish and corals home too. brutal! I feel for ya Might be worth having a look see at the new red sea reefers that are about to drop. Very very swish and well priced. That and they are not complete, letting you customize details for your build. Seeing as its not your first tank, that opens you up a bit for tailor building a setup around the livestock you wish to keep. Nothing wrong with kit tanks, but you often end up buying components twice...... which makes them less cheap over all.

Welcome mate, all the best thanks for the imput brodie7744, i think i might do a little more research on this LED business, if its as good as you are saying it is then its a go-er, Thanks Welcome aboard!lol the torture of being able to browse a lfs like Pet City and not have a tank to take fish and corals home too. brutal! WOW that red sea Reefer system is nice!! love the seamless look, my old 4ft was seamless and open top, looked amazing. i have always found red sea to make top shelf gear, my old skimmer was red sea (prizum pro?) was awesome!! easy to maintain and clean. Any ideas as to where abouts i could check one of these out? i don't think i saw any at Pet city? You are correct about being able to tailor what i want now i have been through a few, deffinatly don't want to be buying a kit tank and flogging off the skimmer, sump and lights, may as well just buy tank and hardware separate ha! as for livestock it will be fairly small stuff (couple Percula, Dragonett, flame angle, chromis)
Ben-san
Okay so i want back to pet city today just too have another look over the AquaReef 195 when i noticed they had the bigger brother on display and on sale, the AquaReef 300, so i pulled the doors off (which are freaking cool i might add, with the whole magnetic bizzzo and being able to take the side and front doors off with ease) so anyway the sump is pretty good, heaps of space, significantly larger, what seems to be a better protein skimmer, big LED light set, same but bigger pumps and so fourth. I think the most appealing thing about the whole setup is that its nice and deep, the whole thing actually looks a lot larger than what it really is, the nice open top and being about chest heigh really makes it more of a statement than an aquarium in my lounge. So this said i think we have a winner!!! wow just read that back, i could be in sales ha!
