Adult Female Peppermint Bristlenose

Recommended Posts

I DONT KNOW HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE TO BE FN TOLD... FEMALE BN CAN HAVE BRISTLES.......

ITS WHETHER OR NOT IF THERES A FORK IN THE END OF THE BRISTLES THAT MEAN ITS A MALE !!!

If they were like 4cm and had those lil bristle then they might b a good precursor to being male

And these r 8-9 cm so the males' forks would b there and evident...WHICH THESE ARENT !

forking of the bristles doesnt indicate male or female bristlenose... both can have bristles out front on their lips especially notible in peppermint and orange spot b/n.... males will have bristles on top of its nose where as a female does not... sexing can be done by rubbing top of their nose... soft and squishy indicates a male and firm and plate like indicates female...

male peppermint b/n have been known to hold back their nose bristles in the presence of bigger dominate males so they dont get picked on and beaten up by dominate male(s)...

from experience have had a 12cm peppermint which i swear was a female by looking at it in the tank... but once it was moved to its tank it developed nose bristles within a week... and within a month was as bushy as a medusa plec (well nearly :) )

One definately looks male as its getting the ridge up the nose not 100%. Yes females do have bristles. Have a female common that would be 15cm easy as she has more bristles than some of the males you see around now days. Mind you she is 6 years old

srsly?

Thats like shaving koi!

can you shave koi lol :) unfortunately a male pepp is worth $50 and the female upwards of a $100... a breeding pair can be sourced for as little as $150 and up to $300...... all boils down to $$$... cause the sexing of pepps isnt an exact science known by everyone the seller selling a male pepp with trimmed bristles will always play dumb if questioned by the buyer at a later date.... didnt have bristles so i thought it was a girl...

seen many new hobbyists get caught out buying 2 males as a pair....
