8x3x2.5 Build

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

just thought i'd share my latest project. I'm building a 8x3x2.5 display tank. The tank is being built by the famous Dennison, he has done the crazy small silicone joins and polished the front corners... No strips :)..... The stand is going to be steel, built from 50x50x2.5 and built in a full frame... I'm building the stand of course ;), once tge stand is complete it will be going to the powder coaters to get powder coated black. For the finishing of the stand i will be getting enamel panels cut, applying magbets to the back and sticking them on the frame, this will allow for easy removal and greater access to the sump... Dennison is also knocking up a 4x18x18 sump to power the beast. No further thought has been put into the rest of the build yet as i have been so busy... So busy infact Dennison called the other day and let me know it was all finished and i was like 6 weeks is up already? Haha, i only started the stand this afternoon4 hrs later it is nearly welded. Will finish it off in the morning and deop it to the powder coaters on Monday Morning.

sump pump i'm thinking of running the trusty Laguna max flo 7600lph

media will be the norm for mechanical and biological will consist of marine pure balls and macropore

plumbing will consist of pvc return and delivery lines, the return line will be a 25mm bulk head reduced out to 40mm back to the sump and the. Have a manifold with 3 dump points over the dacron. The return line wil be 25mm and plumb into a manifold with 3 outlets to dispurse water evenly throughout the tank, and create that maximum waterflow

lighting will be LED's, exactly what is still undecided... I'm open to idea's.

substrate is going to be about a 25mm layer of 5mm pebble, color undecided also atm.

inhibitants of the aquarium are

60cm mono peacock bass

42cm peacock bass

45cm jardine saratoga

17cm leo x motoro sting ray

few others i'm undecided on atm, open to suggestion

heck out the pictures of this afternoons effort's, thanks for looking and sharing your thoughts

I love that you have a couch in your workshop so you can relax and admire your handywork.

Hahaha! Alot of beer gets drank on that couch, on the other wall there is a 8x2.5x2.5 with a big pbass in it to stare at... Ask jcumpstay lol!

so there has been a slight change of plans. Originally the tank was going to be a display at home, yesterday I got an idea for some reason and decided It would go better in the shop on display. So today a false wall went in and product display's have been moved on the back wall to make way for Dennison's delivery of the tank on Monday afternoon. so pumped and can't wait :D... photo's to come once it arrives

So Dennison visited today and dropped off the new display. This is the 1st time i have had a tank built by him and wow, well worth the money, it even came with sliding lids 😃, i ccan't thank him enough easy to deal with and for a change i basically stood there and watched him and his 74 yr old dad install it onto the stand (1 tuff old dude ;) ) anyways hoping to receive media, sump pump and lights later in the week. If i get time i will plumb it up tomorrow and start washing substrate.

Sliding lids are terrific, im not sure why they aren't more popular?

So you watched a 74 year old fella do the hard work? I hope you can do CPR just in case!

Did you offer them a beer?

Seriously it amazes me what some elderly folk can do!! Good on him!

PS I like your stand builds looking very professional.

Actually now you've said it i was quiet rude i dodn't actually offer them a beer, instead i stood there drinking 1 in front of them hahaha! I figured they'd grab 1 if they want 1...

Thank you sir, have a powder coater on board now he's doing the 4,5,6 ft 2 and 3 tier stands for $100 now 😃

I love old hard a$$ dudes they rock... I'm not sure why sliding lids aren't more popular, they are such a simple set up and very easy to clean, hassle free in my eyes... Life will be so much easier at feeding time!

Who needs the spare 8ft space for stock, if you got the room throw a 8x3 there!!!

kiddies are going to love tapping that glass for sure!

Dennison does his own version of arrow lids too so if you get anything like an arrow in there it wont jump out ; )

I kind of had a little stuff it moment i having a cool as display in the shop to stare at every day with some bada$$ fish to talk to like a weirdo, but i did get a false wall thrown up and move and create a hell of alot of more room for atock which is awesome. Redesigning the racks for more tanks for a larger variety now since i used up the extra room with the tank hahaha!

10mm glass covers are good if you have large jumping fish. Laminate glass finally has a place. An extra sandbag or two will provide weight but not shatter lids on the way down when hit hard. If you have large lids, add some 40mm holes well in from edge as feeding holes.

That's some good advice right there, the p-bass aren't to bad but the toga is a different story.
