Personally I would like to see these moved from sticky threads as they are pretty dead. see below. I do however think they are a great idea, but perhaps need a bit more thought into the execution & clarity to see future projects survive & prosper. I would be keen to see a new group of projects launched & this also might breath some life into the species specific sections...? I myself would prefer a more varied species list, all the Malawi's were mbuna. Nothing wrong with it just saying, and the Tangs seemed to be out of everybodys reach. or maybe that is the point of the 'rare' project, everybody wants some but few have the $$... I have a few fish that I can let somebody breed for me as i'm not experienced on that field. I know that there are risk involved and that's something we can't avoid. I am starting to get a picture and its telling me the majority of breeders are doing their own thing and are time short and don't want to get involved with these projects. And that's understandable. It is a shame because some of these fish are available interstate and it would be great to see them being bred here. But I am afraid it wont happen. I nominated some Malawis and a couple of them were chosen. I had no tanks at the time and didn't intend to start keeping Malawis again. Now I am interested in Bettas but I would not get into keeping any specified types if included in this project. Why? Because I, like most others only want to breed what suits me. And thy definitely don't want to share. I'm willing if an Sp comes up that I'm interested in. goldenswimmers Posted September 25, 2015 Report Share Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) I think it's a bit of a burden and agree people aren't talking about what fish they have etc I'm happy to jump on the repopulating of any fish in the list I like(and have a few from this old list in my collection)but agree Craig as we at least need to keep the list up to date and relevant and even if it just presents those hunting the fish a lead or two and that usually works out well for both the breeder and the new admirer!! I'm wondering if we should make our own list and have a little relevant paragraph/few points for each fish detailing current situation and people currently keeping/breeding etc...no need for a thread for each fish I think as this is why there's no interaction just the one big topic listing the relevant fish and people can keep it updated :noidea: Just some thoughts Edited September 25, 2015 by goldenswimmers Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Talk to people can make a proposal. I believe in the project to raise profile of fish in need be it rare or4 quality issues. I remember a long time ago a small dwarf cichlid board in Australia raised what they called the crib project aimed at swapping bloodlines and breeding better kribs. Consider convicts as another fish in the same need. Probably the mistake we made is it was based on a vote of members, and some fish were raised which were unrealistic or not in need. Lots of people want to keep stuff to themselves, but there are also lots of guys who are willing to share and help and I think we can do better. Craigo Posted September 25, 2015 Author Report Share Posted September 25, 2015 don't mind that idea Brent, however some people have an eye for quality & some don't...some have a problem picking out sub quality fish & throwing them on the driveway & some don't...who is quality control? I realise older (no necessarily) & more experienced hobbyists will have the eye but new comers might not yet... I'm thinking we gauge interested in separate types being malawi hap, mbuna, Victorian Haps & Tangs wouldn't have to do one of each just one that has the most interest from people that are serious. Then I'm thinking we would need to have people commit, thinking locate the fish & buy in one big group buy & distribute evenly, good for price negotiation & gives everybody the same start & everybody can be in touch & keep updated & possibly swap sexes & what not....ideally....
