Snooze
My sil has got a small tank with Mollies, a couple which I've noticed have got a white fungus growing around the eyes & some spots on the body. Looks more fuzzy fungus type than spot to me. Anyway she went to her lfs & has treated the tank with white spot treatment, but the fish have not improved. I suggested she do a full water change & gravel vac then treat again. But Im not quite clued up on the best way to go about clearing this up. I have heard about salt baths, raising temps etc. Can anyone run me through a proven treatment method for this condition? Snooze
Thanks! Do you know anything about how much salt ratio etc? And what type of salt is best? Sent from my HTC_PN071 using Tapatalk
B_rad84
I use aquarium salt the dose is 1 tea spoon per 100 liters
Donny@ageofaquariums
Sounds like a bacterial, salt is good but I would lower temperature. Above 24degc tends to cause rapid infection growth. There are much better for bacterial infections but salt is a good start. Best to try find the event that triggered the disease. A picture of tank filter would help as would ammonia and nitrite test results.
Snooze
I have no idea what her tanks test results would be. Probably not great as they do a water change monthly if that. Filter is a canister type. The fish have probably suffered from poor water quality and/or been picked on by other fish. Not my tank so can only advise, ultimately up to her. Donny@ageofaquariums
Fix tank conditions first or meds are just masking problem. Clean canister correctly, water change and add salt. Mollies are tough fish in good water.
