which water conditioner to use?

Recommended Posts

ok so i have been using Aqua Star to treat my tap water for years and it seems to no longer be available from Age of Aquariums, and i can't find it anywhere else.

I've been very happy with it but need something asap as i'm almost out. It's quite strong and has worked very well with me for a long time.

I'm looking for suggestions on what else to use please.

Aqua Star claims to

  • Aqua Star acts fast. Within Minutes, it neutralizes chlorine, chloramine,
  • toxic ammonia and heavy metals, making tap water safe for fish. Adds protective Slime coating.
  • Aqua Star can also be used to reduce dangerous ammonia levels in established aquariums or when transporting fish.
  • Neutralizes 5ppm chlorine, 2ppm chloramine, 1ppm ammonia.

I have used Prime before but found aqua star to be better (less fish loss especially when breeding and growing out fry).

Thanks in advance.

You are really only going to get opinion without any scientific evidence, why not give supaclor a go, prime is a popular one strange that you do not like it.

Prime has proven troublesome with certain delicate species of fish that are highly susceptible to chlorine. The other product you recommend I have also tried (once only) and would never use again. In 18-24 months of using Continuum I have had zero losses as a result of water changes with approximately 20 - 30000 fish. The only other product I have ever used with results that come close was Wardleys Tri-Start many, many years ago. Technology has changed dramatically since then.

I went from prime to fraction purely for price reasons, and because AoA never had it on the shelf when we went in..my peps are still breeding and all tanks are happy and healthy..I know fraction doesn't do the slime coat related thing that prime does though.. and I think I put in more than the recommended dose.. but I have no science to offer.

I have used Prime for many years without issue, have not used supaclor, it is Australian is it not? I rarely listen to people these days about products as some have success with products and others do not, I work on conclusive evidence not hear say or opinion. That is good news that continuum has worked out great for you, what was your problem with supaclor.

it is not Australian. I would buy an Australian made product if it was as good & was price comparable. Take for example a new australian brand of food & water conditions from down south, people say they are good but they are bull*h*t expensive! they are just relying on the whole 'buy aussie made' aspect. You have to be competitive as well. This is my opinion & I'm sure many will not agree but I don't care... :D
