Bill Smith Fundraiser

Recommended Posts

Hi QLDAF Members

We (Queensland Cichlid Group) are having a fundraiser for Bill Smith.

As you may know he is in hospital recovering from a leg amputation

when he returns home (in a couple of weeks) the house needs to be wheelchair friendly

this includes ramps on external doors and grap rails in the bathroom and toilet.

Also he needs a wheelchair and shower chair amongst other things.

He will not get any help with this as he has a business that he only just started with his wife

two weeks before this happened. This is a hard time as there starting from the ground up

and with Bill in hospital Sue has been doing crazy hrs at the shop. Keeping house

and visiting Bill every night. With all the worry on top she is just holding it together

Now if Bill never worked a day in his life everything would have been given to him

for free but because he pays tax they have to find the money themselves

Not really fair is it

what I'm asking is for ppl to donate a gold coin to Bills fund

(I'm sure he has helped everyone in some way or another)

and $1 or $2 or whatever you can give is not much to ask for

Money can be deposited in to the following account

Bank of Queensland

Queensland Cichlid group

Bsb. 124 039

Acc. 90109429

Thanks for your help.

We will hand Bill a cheque in due course with a video being posted of his response

pls also post your messages on this thread and I will make sure he reads them all

This has been approved by QLDAF Admin.

On a personal level, I do not know Bill well, other than to say he has given heaps to this hobby. Now the hobby needs to give something back.

The guy is very genuine and passionate about the hobby, and the hobby would be a lot poorer today in QLD without him.

Hello Bill and Sue, sorry to hear about your misfortune , i cant begin to imagine what you both must be going through. Both Denise and myself wish you all the best for a speedy recovery and hope all goes well for your future endeavours. Kind regards Gary Lenehan

If he didn't work he would get the ramp, rails and wheelchair for free -- but there is probably a six year waiting list ;)

In all seriousness though, I can only imagine the stress and worry they are going through.. hopefully the hobby community spirit kicks in and we can help ease the financial stress a little.

All the best.

I have known Bill since the early 80's when I was a member of the Dedicated Hobbyists Aquarium club and he was involved with the Qld Cichlid Club.

I'm not sure but I think they were the "enemy" back then, but it was all good fun.

Whenever I spoke to Bill he was always full of fish knowledge and didn't mind passing that info on.

I will repeat the story I was told to give you an indication of his sense of humour and outlook on life.

His wife Sue had just started a new job and Bill rings to speak to her.

Person answers the phone: "Hello can I help you?"

Bill: "Can I speak to Sue Smith please"?

Phone answerer: "Yes can I say who is calling?"

Bill: "Yes it's her parole officer!!"

All the best Bill for a speedy recovery, I hope your wheelchair is the upmarket model with mags, speed stripes etc.

Cheers Brian.

i have asked gingerbeer to see if we can open up a sub forum in our live auction section so members can run a few auctions to help raise some money for bill,

we have one already going and another lot offered by a sponsor, if we did this it could be kept together and easier to find,

thoughts guys ?

Fish Junkie would this help at all

Bill and Sue Smith are two of the most awesome people ever. My partner worked for Bill and Sue for 2 years and loved every day of it. I know she is extremely grateful for the opportunity to have worked and learned so much from them.

Get well soon Bill, and hang in there Sue.

Take care, and we hope to see you again soon.

Stace and Jeanine.

Sure would Steve. Makes it easier for everyone

Also if it's live it could be a 24/48 hr auction ?

Hi Gingerbeer, aquaholics likes to offer for this cause 10x bio pro 200w heaters for auction with the proceeds to be donated to this worthwhile cause. Would you be able to organize this? We can ship out these directly to the customer for $7.00 shipping

Hope this will help the cause.

Thanks to Jesse and his team. This will be offered in the auction.

Due to the hot weather and coming into summer i have cut back the donation of 10 heaters and added some other products that should bring in a higher price (the LED light alone is worth over $100)

We have uploaded all items now to the auction with NO RESERVE so dig deep and remember where all the proceeds are going
