My first ever Cichlid breeding, HELP !!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have a breeding colony red fin Kadango ad my femae is holding.

I have not bred cichlids before and need some advice.

I have set up another small tank and need to know if I should isolate the female or strip her into this tank?

She has been holding for 2 days, how long do I wait to do either option?

Cheers

Don't isolate leave in main tank. When you strip is a matter of personal preference. Wait at least two weeks from date of mouthful given it's your first time breeding. Good luck. Cheers

I let mine go in the main tank for about two to three weeks then pull them out to a separate tank. I let her spit them naturally and look after them for a few days (start feeding her small amounts of food once she spits, and the babies a couple of days later on baby brine shrimp or really crushed up flakes). I then remover her after a couple of days and put her in a sectioned off partition of the main tank for about two weeks to let her get her form and strength back and then release her into the main population. This has always worked well for me.
