Cheyenne
Hi, I have recently bought a kuhli loach (don't worry i'm getting more very soon) and I was wondering if anyone has experience in them? The one I have right now is eating 'vege wafers' and seems happy. I've put little pipes in there for him/her, but s/he never hides in them. I have swordtails and a female bristlenose in there too. Are these ok tank mates? My tank has gravel/sand substrate, heater, filter, aerator, a huge piece of driftwood (for the bristlenose) and some live plant. Is this good? Thanks! QldMick
hey Cheyenne all seems good there. kuhli's are a favorite of mine, yes you do need 5 or 6, yours sounds like it hangs out in the open? often the biggest problem with kuhli's is people buying one or two and them then "disappearing", turning up months down the track in your filter or to find its still in your tank but has doubled in size. they do grow fast from the size you buy them and a small group wont be so shy. I don't know about "veggie wafers", but they don't require any specialists foods, anything of decent quality will do, just try and make sure your loach gets a bit of a feed, as ive heard of people who don't feed them and just use them as a clean up mob (can get to were other fish can't) but i'd make sure their getting their share as well. good luck with your fish. cheers mick

People say they eat snails and all sorts of things like that but in my experience they never did. Like all fish a varied diet is healthy. But your setup sounds perfect. S/he like Qldmick said will become more active in a school. Good luck!
Cheyenne
Thx QLDmick for replying! I have only just got him/her so all i have fed him/her so far is those 'vege wafers'. But i plan on feeding blood worms very soon. He/she hasn't gotten into the filter yet, and i hope s/he never does. I see him/her almost all the time, digging in the sand or darting around. I expected him/her to be hiding all the time, being alone. Maybe s/he is just unique. Ever since I got this little guy/girl kuhli loaches have become my favorite fish. Cheyenne
I think they do get along, coconutwater. But i haven't ever had cherry shrimp so i don't really know how well they get along.
Cheyenne
I have snails in there, but so far he isn't interested in them. Yet.
goneself
I would never feed blood worms to anything, they can cause all sorts of problems. Black worms are great for khulis, live if you can find them.
Cheyenne
I don't know if i can find any. I've fed bloodworms to all my fish and they're fine
aquaholic99
I put about 60 stripe Khuli into a 3 foot tank filled with 8mm round pebble about 30 cm deep several years ago. I'm not sure how many are left but I see lots of little ones at feeding time and have pulled out about 80 larger over this time.

Cheyenne
Are kuhli loches extremely hard to breed? Or can you actually breed them is you have good conditions? thanks. Edited November 16, 2015 by Cheyenne
mikie91au
Hi CoconutWater, i have had 2 (i know they are happier as a group but a few have died off over time) in a cherry tank for over a year now and the shrimp population is still growing, i have never seen any aggression from the kuhli's they just happily scoot around the tank doing their own thing...
