Hot Topic Friday 23rd October - What food?

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a few new foods on the market at the moment, and it does make me wonder if I am getting left behind with my NLS love.

Have you/Will you try any of the new feeds available, and if so which and why? If not - Why? Also helpful to mention the fish you are feeding as I do not believe one food suits all.

You're not the only one, I still feed nls to everything even guppies.

I have at least 10 dry foods for the fresh tanks and at 5 for the marine.

I still like Sera but lately I've been using tetra, ocean free, extreme and ocean nutrition. I have noticed that some fish don't like the tetra but the rest seem to be enjoyed.

Nls and Sera are still the go to foods and I've found that it's hard to get fish off Sera and nls if they have been the main foods but it's easy to get fish to eat them if they haven't had it before.

Cheers mick

africans mostly from lake malawi

aquamunch for adults

thrive advance for fry

OSI flake for multies, humpheads, and some for my malawi fry in the first week,

bristle nose get aqua one waffers,

humphead fry also get frozen brine shrimp

goldfish get a cheap bulk food from aquaholics as do my 1 tank of yankies,

i also keep a stash of blood worms which i will feed to young cuckoo's when they are changing from eggs to pellet food, this seems to work

i use aquamunch as its good value, doesn't cloud my water, and i know the ingredients are put together by an african keeper for africans,

i do get other foods and mix it up a bit, but normally only if i'm testing new foods, my fish seem to be happy and always breeding,

i also give my peps the catfish food from techy, they seem to enjoy it, and i've had great success in raising my pep fry on the same catfish fry food that john does,

most of my food comes from aquaholics and then some from techy,

Good topic.

I feed HBH veggie flake to my tropheus, cyprichromis, gobies, tricoti. And crushed up HBH flake to all my fry.

Nutris or ocean nutrition frozen mysis and brine shrimp for the frontosa, cyprichromis and tricoti.

Im currently looking for a good pellet that doesnt stink up the water or discolour it.

I have tried some of the tropical brand spirilina flake and tanganyikan chips with good results.

Im trialling some dainichi food on some fish at the moment and they are really loving it.

I feed NLS....pellets

Powder NSL+ spirilina powder to Endlers

I don't like Flake food.....It leaches nutrients quickly if not eaten immediately

Weekly feed of black worms

odd feeding of other live foods...;)

That thread is a little bit funny at places with people pushing a personal agenda....

OK I have a personal agenda, I feed NLS. Spoke to a guy lately who uses aquaholic thrive and has had spectacular results... then the API food claims are intriguing.... 30% less ammonia is a huge claim.... and the Denali range.

I have a feeling that NLS lifted the bar, and maybe other brands have responded..... Am I getting left behind? Has food technology moved.

I would be happy to continue using NLS if it didnt discolour the water and stink.

Never had an issue with water discolouration or stink, but I did notice that unless my water circulation was set to turbo I got a coating of dust attaching to gravel and rock work. I can live with the rock work (it looks nice) but not the gravel.

No issues with sand tanks as fish sift it a lot.

as for food, I like NLS ingredients & processes but it makes a mess of the water, so I was only feeding once a week to get through my stockpile.

I am a big fan of ocean nutrition, as its quality at a price I can live with, also the ingredients list is impressive & is what made me move away from SERA flora as much a sI did have good experience with it.

I was trying Xtreme for a month before my accident, and the fish responded really well to it, bit suspect about every different type of food they have having the same analysis…..

Also tried all the ocean free new range of foods, my haps were not in the slightest interested in the floating carnivore pellet, but went just nuts over algae pellet & discus pellet, I did like the discus pellet for fry swell, I rate this food pretty well. only used for a short period of both.

All the tang freaks seem to be going nuts over Tropical food but its too expensive to justify for myself.

I am tryign to do some reading of Dainichi food especially the colour supreme as it states there is no reason females shouldn't obtain male colours while on this food….http://www.dainichi.com/cichlid_food_color.html

I am planning on more reading of the other feeds they have available as I am looking to try this food, perhaps not the colour supreme but…. I know its early days but I am looking for feedback about this brand as well.

You do realise coeliac disease is a real issue & the effects can be very severe Wogboy* AND its gluten. :)

I do Craigo, my friend is one of them, but how many non coeliac people are there? I think Jimmy Kimmel said people are more afraid of glooten than Smallpox. You do realise Payleeo is a waaaay of liiiiife!
