Tjhawk19
Is it possible to mix in some africans and american cichlids into the same tank? it would depend on the fish of course, i was thinking along the lines of red terror, red devil, oscar, salvini, jags and venestus
mbunamad
I personally wouldn't do it, Tjhawk19Bob? better to keep the tank all yanks or all Malawis. What size tank is it? Please don't say it's x gallons. Im not a yank cichlid expert but it appears to me those inhabitants would need a hugeish tank. smicko
I agree, i wouldnt mix them. You will need an 8x2x2 minimum just for the yanks and some fish are more agro than others so it would be better to buy them young and let them grow together. Always be on the lookout for aggression and be prepared to swap fish out. Most people that have American community tanks have a 4-5ft to put fish in if they don't work out so they aren't in a hurry to sell them. Jase86uxb
You only have one African in that list anyway mate... I wouldn't do it just looks silly to me but....it can and has been done That said how big is your tank because lots of Americans don't mix so well together either..... goneself
Americans wont look their best at high ph, Africans won't look their best at low ph, so one group is going to look rubbish.
Tjhawk19
i mean, my tank size is quite laughable after hearing your recommended size, its only 4ftx2ftx2ft and i have all of them in their besides the african, aswell as a synspillum, dont tell me i have to upgrade again T_T

Pikey
Sell them.....or as soon as the Red Terror gets big enough, they are all dead, the Jag and the devil will put up a fair fight, but my moneys on the Festae, those things are natural born killers and need there own tank. That is only if you're lucky and it is female. If the Festae is male, then they are already on borrowed time and when its ready it will probably kill them all in one go while you are asleep one night. Normally at about 10cm and above they start to get more aggressive. The Oscar will be the first to go, it will just lay on the bottom of the tank and die at the first sign of a real fight, they are good at posturing and pulling scary faces, but that is all they got, big sooks Too be honest any one of those fish (apart from the Salvini) would be too big for that tank as adult and it doesn't take long
Jase86uxb
Keep your two EBJD's and sell the rest..... Heck I'll bye em of ya lol
mbunamad
i added them today also planning to add my 2 ebjd's which are 3cm (i know its crazy) If you know its crazy then why do it?
Tjhawk19
they seem to be getting along fine for now, salvini is 15cm, red devil 13cm, red terror is 7cm, oscar 8cm, synspillum 7cm, and i dont have the jag. Salvini is a really peaceful fish hasnt bothered anything, red terror is quite small compared to the salv and red devil so it wont try anything, i have 99% belief its a female it has strong bars on the festae, and idk if males also dig but she was also nesting in the corner of the tank
Lictoga
ok, so you have the big agro fish in the shoe box. what are you using to filter this tank. as these fish grow they will produe massive amounts of waste
Sephiroth
So ah where did you get all these fish from... Did no one ask you questions when purchasing like tank size, stocking etc? 3cm ebjd in that mix lol
smicko
Normally males dig the nest and wait for a passing female. If there is a female in the mix it will increase the aggression as the males try to show off and female festaes would be more aggressive than any other fish in the tank, unfortunately americans grow really quickly and I give it 3-4 months maximum before you wake up to a tank of dead fish. My first tank nearly 20 years ago was a mixed American 4x2x2 and that was awesome until one night a male texas decided he didn't like tankmates and ripped the heads off every other fish in there. The moral to the story is that everything seems fine until it's too late to do anything. I would keep the two ebjd and sell the rest. Tjhawk19
i have an aquis 1250 canister filter, aswell as a aquatopia internal filter both do over 400L tanks, it seems risky but i was told to probably wait until they cause problems to sell them, so i can atleast make money on them or else ive just wasted it all, but all problems can be caused within a night and then its too late, i got my fish from wet dreams aqautics, and exotic fish connections, i have green pretty attached to all my fish, but especially the Red terror and oscar, but if its honestly impossible i guess ill just have to sell them all
Heintz.G
Keep the one fish, Red Terror or the Oscar, sell the rest of them off and cut your loses, the tank and filters you have will be enough and your life as well as the fish you keep will be more enjoyable. Pikey
Keep the Red Terror, best fish of the lot, but really is a one fish tank, even the males kill the females if you are not careful. They always do it at night, they are sneaky buggers, they swim around looking all cool and getting along fine and then one night out of the blue the red terror morphs into the Terminator and goes on a killing rampage. I think they wait until they are big enough to take out the entire tank in a single night, then bang! all over red rover. Good Luck
