stefjane
I set up this Terrarium about a month ago, and it's still going strong There are just plants at the moment, three ferns and some Java moss. I'm hoping to rescue a praying mantis or a stick insect or possibly a marsh frog to put in there. P.S. the dinosaur is in there because my nephew is obsessed with them so we wanted to see his reaction
stefjane
Here is a picture of the terrarium under the blue/red LEDs and a picture of what it looks like now after a month of growth. The fern in the back right was squished in the last terrarium so that's why it looks like that.
stefjane
At one stage this terrarium got some cool mushrooms growing in it, but also some ugly mould which seriously messed with my sinuses (this is sitting right next to where I sleep). I tore it down and set it up again as a simple dry terrarium, with some succulent potting mix and of course some succulents. Unfortunately this also affected my sinuses so I had to take that down again after a few weeks. Now it is a humid terrarium again, but with NO DIRT!! Just lava rocks, pebbles, and some epiphytes (no dinosaur this time ).

Netto14
What did your nephew think of the dinosaur? Not 100% on this, but won't mushrooms eventually sprout again despite no soil? Could you move it to another room, where it's not as likely to inflame your sinuses? Looks amazing in the previous pics and I'm sure it's just a matter of time till it's all filled out and jungle like again.
stefjane
What did your nephew think of the dinosaur? Haha, my nephew went nuts when he saw it, he kept taking it out and then putting it back. Now that there's no dinosaur (I don't really want him putting his hands in there and spilling water trying to get one out) he'll probably be upset. Not 100% on this, but won't mushrooms eventually sprout again despite no soil? I hope not! Besides, I think it was more the fertilisers and stuff in the dirt that I used (originally bonsai mix, then the succulent mix) that affected me, it just got a lot worse when the mould started to appear. Could you move it to another room, where it's not as likely to inflame your sinuses? I have thought of this, but can't seem to find a good place for it. I'm starting to feel better already moving the dirt out so hopefully this setup won't affect me. It's refreshing to be able to breathe through my nose when I sleep! Looks amazing in the previous pics and I'm sure it's just a matter of time till it's all filled out and jungle like again. Yeah it looks a bit empty right now. Hopefully the the epiphytes (aka java mass, java fern, anubias nana and bolbitus heudelotii) transition well to emersed growth.

stefjane
Yes, I'm just waiting for the unlucky (or would it be lucky?) Marsh frog to fall into my pool so that I can keep it It used to happen occasionally but now it never happens. Damn urban development...
