I agree but if we are going to be honest about it all L144 should be called luecostic bn.

Pretty sure only one 144 was found in the wild and we could guarantee it didn't end up in aus.

Cheers mick

thats interesting, have to be honest i never did get into these guys much,

so if i breed a male with my common female i will get some of each ?

i do have a male here with half a tail, never bothered getting him a girl due to his lack of tail, lol

but might give him a common girl and see what happens,

I'm pretty sure I can call them l144's as there are 4 commons and the rest are as pictured, if they were all commons then I wouldn't of posted.

Cheers, TheAquaHolic001

but what if somebody buys some and breeds them and they breed common bn ? i know i'd be peeved as all hell,

just think you should call them as they are, L144 x common,

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying you shouldn't breed them or even sell them, just make sure the buyers know what they are buying,

i'd be interested in seeing better pics of parents and fry when they get bigger,

steveandjules, I'm sure you could. I wouldn't cross them but I'm a little old fashioned.

It's getting harder to find commons that don't have albino gene and longfins are even worse.

As you know it's always better to keep things as pure as possible.

TheAquaHolic001, if you plan on selling them be honest about the parentage.

I would be fairly angry if i paid for 144 and they threw common babies or vice versa and I'm sure plenty others would be as well.

Realistically they are not going to be worth much so just keep them as tank cleaners.

agree smicko, but i do need a lot of tank cleaners lol, so i might just give it a go, 1 batch to see if he can breed and then i can buy him a girlfriend lol, he lost 1/2 his tail in a rock fall in his tank,

i'm just getting back into breeding some different bn again,

i do believe its almost to late to get pure commons, but i'm hoping i have a few still in my tanks

I still have some pure commons here, Steve, I'm sure I can find you a nice young female or two if you can't find any in your tanks :)

Cheers, Doug

I'm fairly sure I still have one pair of pure commons but I need to fish them out of the pond to be sure.

I just got some common longfin in the hopes they are pure.

Hopefully he will breed for you steveandjules.

All good Steve, I no longer consciously breed my commons, but still have quite a few juveniles and adults spread around the fishroom and am regularly finding eggs and small fry in some of the tanks that I just leave to be eaten, so there are definitely some breeders here :)

I've had this strain here for many years and have only ever had commons in my fishroom, so the strain is definitely pure.

Happy to help you out if I can.

so you bread a hybrid not L144

its the same as me crossing a midas and a red devil then selecting the ones that look like either and calling them as such.

you made f1 hybrids nothing more.

poor form dude

You might as well get a female now, it will take 1-2 years to grow them out and even if all the babies look the same they will still carry the common gene and it could come out in future generations.

Because the common gene is dominant it would take a fair few generations to make sure they no longer carry it.

This thread gave me the motivation to clean the pond, a few hundred bn and no albino, no longfin . Stoked with finally finding a clean pair I can only hope my longfin pair is as good.
