thought I would share my little 13L octagonal tank, Its been

runner a few months now and I’ve changed a few things as it progressed

Tank: 25cm high and 25cm across octagon

Soil: Ada Amazonia

Filter: small H.O.B

Light: green elements

Co2: ista bell diffuser

I wanted to dry start it, Eleocharis Belem up front.

i think your algae is a lack of co2 problem,As you have a hob filter the surface is creating good oxygen exchange but at the same time the co2 would not be staying in the water column long at all,rather escaping out quickly so basically your wasting your co2.For that kind of set up liquid co2 would be better,imo

thanks mate, yeah liquid co2 is how I fixed it, I tried to post (this is just the start) it all in one post but the pics kept stuffing up. the hob filter doesn’t agitate the surface much at all, I keep the tanks water level high enough that the return water doesn’t splash around much. The co2 bell diffuser isn’t the most effective way to administer co2 I know but I had it sitting there not doing anything and thought and thought it would be better than nothing.

The hyro looked ok but I wanted a smaller bushier stem there so I asked around and ended up getting what I’ve been told is rotala roundifolia and he chucked in some others ( big thanks to inverted if you here

I started dosing dino spit and pee to combat the algae and diatoms. I did a big spot dose of spit on all of the algae and diatoms and it cleared up very quickly. I also added some Darwin algae and red nose shrimp that I got at the same time as the spit and pee. It really is a great combo to battle algae
