rennie_08
Hi guys, I recently went on holidays for 5 days and had my mum come to feed the fish. She said everything was fine and none of them were acting strangely, she feed them the night before we got home. When we got home in the afternoon Ozzie was on his side very very badly beaten up. I noticed the 2 green Severums had been shifting some gravel getting ready to breed maybe. I have since moved him into his own tank with melafix and turned the heat up 1 degree and did a little water change. Can someone help me out and tell me what more I can do. He is still lying on his side, lost all color and only breathing very softly. Thanks inks in advance!
aquaholic99
I would add some salt and throw a towel over the tank to give him a sense of security.
GotCrabs
Yeah put a towel over the tank so he's feeling secure, private and somewhat relaxed, turn lights off.

Daharkazangel
Can't see sevs beating up a Oscar, unless he's tiny vs the sevs. How's he now??
rennie_08
Ozzie has passed away.... I never thought you could get so attached to a fish... I cleaned the big tank out today and found the glass thermometer with the bottom of it broken, Ozzie would launch at anything that moves on the top of the water. I am putting 2 and 2 together and thinking he has striked at the thermometer, got sick from the stuff inside the thermometer and then got beaten up Because he was sick and the weakest in the tank... Not very happy at the moment. Thanks so much for all your help guys
GotCrabs
That's ****ed man, sorry to hear, pets are sometimes closer to us than family members, I recently had my Blue Heeler pass away, it's a shocking feeling.
ORANGEMELLY
It is unlikely that it was the sevs...mine give way to my oscar...Sometimes my oscar goes for a mad dash in the tank at night..I think if something rubs up against him or something he gets a fright...it sux big time losing your fish ...especially oscars....I never used to like goldfish that much and then I bought 4 to help me cycle a tank...one was missing a "arm" so I called him Flip....he grew massive and then died due to a mistake I made...I felt terrible and sad that I had lost him...he was an awesome fish..I still have the other 3 and they are now all 10+ inches..losing fish sux.
