Need advice

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that my balloon Molly has a bloodshot eye and lip. She's swimming around normally and seems to be healthy. Just wanting to know has this occurred because she was bashed around or is there another underlying issue with her?

Bit of a tricky one, would need some more detail to try eliminate some possibles to get you the most likely cause :)

Do you have any water test data you can post?

Also what other tank mates are in with her?

End of the day, a partial water change and the addition of some livebearer salt would be a safe step to helping her mend.

I would consider raising the pH a bit, maybe to around 7.5

A better solution would be to setup the balloon mollies in their own tank. They dont really compete with other fish well.

By themselves you can spoil them with salty high pH water, and a quality spirulina flake diet.

Left to their own friendly special world they are just as tough as any other fish.

But a swordtail can really give them a beating.
