tom070785
i have a 3 foot tank stocked with africans and running an fx6 and sponge air filter, for my birthday i got a new 6x2x2. my question is would i be right to just put the fx6 on the six footer and using as much of the old tank water in (topping up with new water and prime), would i be able to add my fish to the tank? i'm planning on using all the same rocks and driftwood but planning on changing the substrate. danfishy84
Hi Tom, if the fx6 has been running for some time then that would be no dramas. The majority of your bacteria is in the filter you will only lose a minimal amount from the substrate. If you have any concerns reduce feeding and slowly bring it back to normal over a week this'll allow your bacteria to multiply.
DFishkeeper
Also don't clean the fx6 before putting it in the new tank.

DeBree420
Don't clean the fx6, fill the tank with new water, the amount of benefits from using heir old water will be minimal, just try to match pH
