Lofties
8x2.5x2.5 is a good size. I've had two of them at different times in the past year. My first one was placid, but the second was mean. Only fish I was scared to put my hand in the tank with. Even meaner than my big Dovii.

Heintz.G
12x4x2.5ft tank would my first choice but you could get away with a 8x3x2.5ft tank. As for tank mates keep it native, a Tandanus (eel tail catfish) and perhaps a few Jade Perch (barcoo grunter)
Lictoga
Tank size is as big as possible. As for aggression they arnt as bad as jars with other fish. And personally mine havent been aggressive to other fish except when feeding. But that being said once they were over 20cm and eating well on anything i offered them they were housed with other fish of similar size. As for tank mates you want nothing it could think of as food or think its food. I have kept mine with pbass, striped Raphael cats, flagtails and other Americans. Also keeping it with fish that don't spook is a good idea, as well as things that are really active at night so i would not suggest large catfish. These guys are jumpers and will move or go through lids. Edited December 21, 2015 by Lictoga
Kalo1993
Thanks for the replies thus far i had planned on the tank being 10x2x2 (is this okay?) or is a 2.5-3 foot width a must? my leichardti is only about 5-6 cm atm in a 4 foot grow out tank and its future tankmates that i already have are some big silver dollars, 70cm longfin eel, black shark and sailfin pleco(maybe). Lictoga
Mine is in a 2ft wide tank and is ok. I strongly advise against the black shark, people reckon dovii are bad haven't kept black sharks. The eel may be a issue come night time.
Kalo1993
Thanks Lictoga, do you know how big Leichardti get in aquariums? iv read they get bigger then Jardini. and as for the black shark i will remove it if it gets bad (it gets along fine with the silver dollars atm) the eel has never shown any aggression all the years iv had it so i think it should(hopefully) be fine. They generally max out at 60cm tl in aquariums. They are a longer more slender fish when compared to a jar

th3f0rg0t3n
you will not raise a good leichardti in a 2ft wide tank , maybe consider selling the leichardti and purchasing a jardini instead . they grow ALOT bigger than 60cm in a fish-tank , i've kept many over the years beyond that size , when they feel 'threatened' they will jump and smash through your lids keeping a leichardti in a 2ft wide tank is a great example of a fish being cramped up with no where too go except through your lids whenever spooked. agree with above post , i've had some lei's be super aggressive and kill tank mates for the sake of killing and i've raised others that wouldn't eat a feeder fish or crayfish even if you wanted too try , I found when raising them from a smaller size keeping them in a community environment from the beginning is a massive help with this , higher the tank density *stocking* the less chance your toga will single a certain fish out for repeated beat downs. good luck with keeping your toga , i suggest when having this tank built whatever size tank you do choose in the end make sure you have atleast 10mm thick glass lids and throw a few sandbags ontop for good measure as once they reach above the 60cm + area they are very capable of going through lids with ease.
