Joshwd
Hey everyone i recently saw at a near by pet shop a tank of their breeding fantail guppies. I was shocked by how large the females were and they all seemed to be like 3 times larger then a standard fantail guppy. Does anyone know anywhere online you can purchase high quality fantail guppies if not anywhere. Like a good strain that will produce nice colouration fry and at a good quantity. Thanks

Joshwd
I dont really want to be buying a guppy for $5+ each unless i know they are good quality. The guppies they had in their breeder tank seemed like the largest healthiest ones i have seen. If i could source some that were similar i would happily pay for quality

pk333
A fish is worth what it is worth. Some of the fancy guppy and endler strains sell for $80 a pair/ $120 a trio. If they have breeding stock, it goes to reason that they would be selling young fish from those breeders that carry the same genes. I really don't see the problem. Donny@ageofaquariums
Good guppies can easy be worth $100+ each. Thats because its almost impossible to find disease free stock of the exact genetic traits you want. You are not buying that fish..... more you are buying its offspring. $100 ÷ 100 = $1 At a guess though, I would know easy 50 guppy breeders. "Fantail" doesnt really narrow down what you are after that much. Go google us a pic of what you consider to be a nice guppy. Chances are theres a few members with them on here. pk333, johnbetta and Joshwd

Really depends on the fish. I've seen bettas for sale at US$500 each, discus for $1500 each. Show grade Koi can be upwards of US$50,000. The worlds most expensive ornamental fish is reportedly a platinum arowana worth US$400,000. Often a new colour type, pattern type or fin type are expensive, because the breeder has invested a lot of time and resources, and culled many many fish over successive generations to produce something new that breeds true. Then you get show quality fish which are just bloody good looking fish. QldMick
Donny@ageofaquariums
A $100 ea guppy is often a $5 guppy within 12 months. As in what happened to Moscow blacks over last few years. Another thing to keep in mind, expensive guppys are often very delicate. So best for experienced gamblers. johnbetta
kitmini
Could just be older girls , some of my tiger endler girls have a fair size on them and they are the breeders. Buy a couple of young ones and with good quality food they will be huge in a few months Donny@ageofaquariums and johnbetta
Donny@ageofaquariums
My big tiger girls would be 3 years old now and have started to die. All from same batch so to be expected...... but always makes me do a double take. johnbetta
aquaholic99
Dedicated guppy breeders separate fry by sexes long before they become sexually mature. How else could you develop a strain of new purchases with confidence otherwise? How they sex 1cm sized fish is fascinating and a joy to watch the speed/experience / volume of sorters. It's all manually done. 8 hour days. Several fish per second & out of water. I've seen fish farms destroy entire vats (8000 + fish) because a male has managed to jump in somehow. johnbetta
ageofaquariums
No guppy is worth more than $5, until someone tries to buy YOUR best male and then you are all like, "woah man! that ones like special or something."
