What to do about the club section?

Recommended Posts

Let me say up front I am a big fan of clubs.  I tend to think many hobbyists cut their teeth at the LFS and then progressed to clubs to learn more.  Admittedly the forum has affected the health of clubs, and now facebook has made things worse for both the LFS and Clubs.

However we have sections for each club to use and it is barren.  It is not being used.  This cannot continue.

So what do we do.  I see three options.

1.  Remove clubs all together

2.  Merge all separate club sections into one superclub section.

3.  Keep as is.

I am leaning towards merging the club forums into one.  I am keen to hear views especially from the clubs involved.  Also from members.

I vote superclub. Some handy info that I don't see on facebook (as they don't show everything the people you follow post) does pop up on here. And for any new members that join here they can see that there are clubs available to contact if they wish. Taking it away completely doesn't allow that to happen so easily, its not something people may know to ask about if there's nothing showing here?

There is already an "Events Calendar & Announcement" section. Isn't that the Superclub forum in theory? Mind you that section needs to get dropped too.

Build the superclub section. It wont get used cos you can't make people use things. With a good search engine, you don't need forum sections anyway. In fact if post counts are abysmal, why not have one single section only.

Historically we used to have too many sections.  This meant the forum was spread fin and looked quiet.  We decided to merge into one but that backfired on us as we lost some of the specialists.  Hence we have bought back marine and natives by popular request.  You are right - if sections are not used they will be cut.  It is up to the people who said yes, to use it.

This is why I am looking at the club section.  I also want to change the events calendar and announcements but that is another conversation and now I want to concentrate on club section.  @xysti53  @savage_roo and others....

merge it into one, have a section for all clubs to post in, put it down the bottom,

instead of having the auction posts everywhere, direct them into the clubs section, seeing as the clubs run them,

maybe call it clubs and auctions

you could have a sticky for each club, add websites, addresses and meeting times, that way members can easily find a club and where they have their meetings,

The problem is that information constantly changes. There is no ownership by clubs so no one updates info on here. Half the stickies here also need to go but that's another topic.

It's easier to point people to a club webpage.

I hate to say it but I agree with aquaholic99. The clubs all have their own Facebook and website so they don't need or use the club section here.

Just get rid of it, but leave the Events section.

I agree with steveandjules about combining the auctions and clubs. I only started posting what was happening in ANGFA as the were a couple of topics created asking what was happening for various meetings. I don't know how much this is used by itself anymore and could quite easily be held in a single thread.

Clubs has now been merged into one section.  If any club wishes they can write an introduction to themselves and I will lock at the top of the section.  May be the interested, meeting times and locations.

Thanks,

Steve
