Cichlid Keeper
Hi All, I am looking at getting a tank, cabinet and hood from AquariumsRus and would like to know if anyone else has had any issues with them in the past. I am looking at a 5x2x2 tank just to give an idea of the size. Please PM me or post on here. Cheers Josh

japes
I've got a couple of ARU tanks. For the price you can't really complain but I'm sure you'll find better tank builders with similiar pricing if you look hard enough.
KaiShin
The worse thing on the ARU tanks is the fact they don't polish the edges down... The edges are pretty sharp and I have cut myself more than once on my tank from cleaning it. Other than that I don't have any complaints. For the price they are pretty good. mattstevens
I don't actually own a tank from ARU, but if you have a look around this forum, there are enough bad reports to make me want to steer clear of them. Hypothetically, even if those reports only represent 10% of the tanks they make, I would not want to be someone who ends up with a crap tank, as I've heard their after sales service is non-existent. My logic is I would rather spend a little more $'s and get a product that is of a higher quality from someone who has a good reputation to uphold. mad-n-angry
i own a 2x18x18 and its a pretty good tank apart from as previously stated the edge work but that don't matter to me as i own a diamond file so i filed the edges down and are as blunt as blunt can be now
swamptrout
I have a couple of their tanks and if i had the room and money i wouldn't hesitate on picking up another. Good tanks at a good price. none of my tanks have sharp edges so lucky me i guess.
Mealsy19
my tank doesnt have sharp edges either. might just be luck of the draw or the apprentice forgot to file the edges down on a few
cycindahead
bought a 6x2x2 from them, only to discover that the fuval hoses had to bend over the lip. edges were fine, would give them 8/10. tell them what filter you are using so they can accomodate its inlet/outlet pipes, or get them to drill your sump holes. mangrovedave
i got an ARU tank set up and its fine. it was then made into marine by mary ann's in browns plains.. apparently alot better tank builder and the same price if not cheaper.. than ARU
KenR60
Yes Agree about Mary Ann's in Browns Plains, one of the BEST Tank Builders around. I've gotten my first Tank from AquariumsRUs and it was the last. Agree with the Sharp Edges, Stand was something a Student would make, really a cheap option but when your talking about a large volume of water is it worth compromising as its not just the fact that a leak could occur but far worse if the Tank explodes while your in the room. Dennison has just delivered my 3rd Custom Tank today, my Tanks are all Custom, first one was 600litres, this one has the bottom at 30 Degree's so the whole tank is 8 foot long and angled and I would not have trusted anyone else to do it. Tank is an Upside Down Tank designed for my Pond so I can see the Fish as if they are in an Aquarium.
Sarg
Poor silicone work, and 3 small scratches on the front. Not to much trouble with the sharp glass. The tank also has no corner cut outs for cannister arms to go in so I had to spend $40 on fittings so I didn't have dicky looking filter arms hanging down in the tank I'll know better for the next time. They were cheap and ready too go so against better judgement I grabbed one. There are many others around here that will make a tank for you but getting someone who will deliver to you might be the problem. If you do get one delivered make sure they have it cleaned and no scratches or you will refuse delivery and canel the payment on your card that should make sure they pick the best or put in the efort if they have to make it for you. Someone must be good mates with mary annes as I got a quote from them and it was $300 dearer than aru.
BigBream
i ve bought a few tanks from ARU not really happy with any of them one of them started leaking after a week so i took it back they would not take it back or fix it for me cos i didnt have a receipt
mani
i got a 6x2 from them it had a leak. absolutely rude. disgusting service and poor workmanship - and many ppl can back this up. seriously the time and rubbish you have to put up with when things go wrong with aru is not worth the minor saving - remember most ppl keep their tanks for years. americans
Here Here couldnt have put it better myself would love to see a poll or some thing to see how many people have actually been burned and how badly burned maybe even there horror stories i know i got a 6x2x800 and it leaked and no back up service was offered cause i lived to far away and your right for the minimal saving its def not worth the risk !!! stevebris
I have a 4x2x1.5 and a 6x2x2 Both ARU Cheap, not the best glass and finished/ cleaned a bit rough! Got to say had the 4ft for 4 yrs and the 6ft for 3 yrs, NO probs!!!!! You do get what you pay for though!
Baxta
I got a 4x2x2 from them in May and the sides are 10mm but its two 5mm pieces joined togeather which didnt bother me all that much. but what pissed me off was the fact that there was a like a smudge INBETWEEN the two peices. I clicked that it was between them after a few minutes attacking it with a chux. Other then that i have had no problems with the tank.
Wetpetz
10mm laminated glass (2 x 5mm) is not safe for a 2' high tank. It has about the equivalent strength of 7mm. I hope the 'smudge' you see is not the laminate separating.
aterese
I use to think that for price ArUS was worth it. I totally agree that they leave sharp edges and sometimes messy with the silicon, so expect to do a clean up. My own tank had very roughly cut lids that looked 2nd hand (there is a rumor they use 2nd glass too). I've heard from a few people who had bad experiences with tanks that were not square, weirs not put together as instructed (because the tank builder decided on another plan without asking), some clash with customers over using sumps etc. I also have dealt with them on another matter and was so fed up with indecisions and stuffing me around. japes
I've got ARU tanks at the moment, quality is average for the price. If you look around you'll find better quality tanks from forum-goers and other local builders for the same price or less, and the increase in quality is astonishing. Pantodon, one of our sponsors (as AquariumsToGo) is a tank builder, but he's away on holidays at the moment until early January.

liljohn_83
it seems to be like annything depends on the workmanship ive got a 5footer 8 mm glass seems good to me mustof been made like 6 yrs ago
crazyD
all my tanks are from ARU and they must be (by the sounds of it) the only good ones they made. yes its double glazed but iv talked to some glazers that say that this give the sides a bit more flex and will not break as easy as a soild bit of glass and also holds the temp better. no problems with leaks or bad silicone job. but that said when i went to have a look at the tanks and that dude you all speak of (egg.lol) showed me the tanks i would be buying i said naaa mate i will have 2 new ones that you will make for me fresh...the ones he showed me did have a bad silicone job and i said WHAT are those your tanks....that you SELL??? he shut up and i paid a deposit and when my tanks showed up they were smick..very nice. Guess when you buy things off people like that you have to throw your weight around a bit and bring them down off their horse if yaz know what i mean. Your are buying sumthing off them and when you pick-up or he drops off...if its not what you want tell him to put it back on his truck and give you your money back.lol simple.
