Barmy
What is the best number of Angels to keep in a a 4 foot (200 litre) tank? I want Angels to be the centrepiece fish for my display tank, so I want enough of them that any aggression will be spread amongst the group, rather than focused on one individual. I've heard that 5 is a good number for a tank this size but I want to be sure before I buy anything.
matt_a
I've seen about 25 to 30 full grown angels getting along fine in a 4ft.
chump
Hi Barmy 5 is a good number, personally I like to keep even numbers of display fish, but that’s just me. You can put in more when they are small and then pick out the best for your display and sell/swap the rest as they grow until you get a nice balance. If you’re after something a bit special Jodi at Fishchick Aquatics has got some F1 wild Peruvian Altum/Scalare. They are not in the shop yet as I think she was going to offer the people on the forums she sponsors first dibs. hope I haven’t let the cat out of the bag!!! Anyway, give Jodi a call as she has some nice domestic colour angels in the shop at the moment. Cheers T
Barmy
I've seen about 25 to 30 full grown angels getting along fine in a 4ft. 25! Okay then, I was worried about my tank not being big enough for a large group, but if 25 isn't too many I think I'll definitely be fine. I'll be sure to check out Fishchicks when I buy them. Don't suppose you know what sizes/prices Jodi has at the moment?
briztoon
I've seen about 25 to 30 full grown angels getting along fine in a 4ft. Holey dooley!!! I think 6 would be a fine number. Any Angels from Peru are Scalare, not Altums.
chump
30 full grown angels in a 4 foot tank, the filtration must of been good. The Peru angels are often called Peruvian Altums because they have the Altum shape but are P.Scalare. T
briztoon
Personally, I can't imagine 25 adult angels in a 4 foot tank, even if it's a 4x2x2. As for getting along fine, I think it's a case aggression being spread, much like many african cichlid setups.
zebra.rachel
I would say only 4 adults considering how big they can get and depending on their temperment they can get pretty aggressive. (especially if you've got more males than you hoped for etc).
