My Cubans and Salvinis

Recommended Posts

Water is finally just starting to clear up after having bulk water quality issues, 24 hour power outage, and not a single means of backup filtration or aeration. Had to pour buckets of tank water back into the tank from height to agitate the surface every other hour, and try and keep the water oxygenated enough, until I could get my hands on a generator, lesson learnt. But it’s getting clearer by the day and I couldn’t resist a pic

Cheers mate, seem to be getting along ok for now, they are going into an 8x2x3 once I get it cleaned up and cycled, when the Cubans spawn I can see there being issues, havnt really hardscaped this tank properly yet just threw in a few bits and pieces,

Most people will tell you this setup will not work, breeding pair of Cubans, 4 salvinis, and an Oscar, in a 3x2x3 approx 450litres, so far so good but Could this be the beginning of the end for peace in the tank? Time will tell. Everyone seems to be getting along, and oddly the salvinis are being allowed to come very close to the Cubans side of the tank, at first I had to place a cage in the tank to give the salvinis protection and a territory to claim as their own, now they are just on the other side of the drift wood that the eggs have been laid next to without any aggression, Glass is dirty because I didn’t want to disturb these guys too much, The Cubans have spawned again and this time the male got the job done, after reducing the flow as advised by @fishking thanks again for the Cubans and advice

Belated thanks for the replies, I kind of forgot about this thread, here’s a couple more pics, slightly adulterated incase and photoshop police turn up lol, Wanted to try and get rid of some of the blue light, all just in iPhone photo edit, was having fun adjusting settings with no clue what I’m really doing, I need to get a new light, the blue is a bit much so I haven’t really been running it lately,

@TheAquaHolic001Cheers brother I’m stoked with them, wanted Cubans for so long, good to tick something off the list, I’ll be keeping them in their current tank on their own and growing out fry for my breeding projects, won’t be letting them raise the fry but, the female has a habit of forgetting to spit them out when she’s “moving” them,  went from hundreds and hundreds of wrigglers to easliy 50+ free swimming, then came home from work that arvo to like 10, left it to long, had an aqua one fry tank but they could just swim out of the gaps, oh well, next water change they will spawn again and I’m prepared this time
