Driftwood wont sink!

Recommended Posts

I bought a tank with a couple of driftwood that came with it from gumtree, I've been soaking the driftwood for about 3 days now and still no sign of it wanting to sink. Any advice?

p.s. I dont know what type of DF it is, they are small sized

Thanks,

Brian

G'day Brian - I find hardwood timbers are much better at getting water logged and remaining 'sunk'.  I also have a large beautiful piece in an 8ft that I think is gum and despite it being in the tank for many months it still floats. Some just wont sink so you need to get creative with wedging it under bits of rock or even drill and fill with weights.  HTPs

nah lead is toxic, steer clear of that. just use river stones. the deeper it is the faster it will become waterlogged because the extra water pressure will force more water into the wood

Can take months.  Some people say boil it but I personally don’t think this makes it sink.  Boiling may help soak out some tannins though.

Screw (stainless or class 3 ie galvanised or climacoat?) it to a porcelain tile and put your substrate over the top.

Or stick a couple of stones on top and wait a few months.
