WTB - Filter Sock

Recommended Posts

Gday Folks

I am looking as to where I can buy a filter sock for the last filter medium before hitting the pump and back into the tank in my new sump setup.

Does anyone know where I could get this from? I want to make a chamber for the pump inlet and cover this with the sock, so a reasonably fine micron value, but all advice welcome please as this is my first sump, and I have inherited an unfinished project.

cheers

Hi

I am certainly no sump man (unlike a fair few members on this forum) but filtersocks can be purchased from shops like KMart, Big W, Bunnings and even Woolworths I think - just browse the Pool Care/Maintenance section. They are very cheap from memory.

I would have thought the filter sock would be better placed at the start of the sump attached to the inlet pipe to catch the larger debris (but as I said - I ain't no sump expert). If it requires frequent cleaning /replacement then maybe it defeats the purpose of a 'set and forget' style sump. Having it towards the end of the sump process, as you suggest, may in fact be more user-friendly.

Thanks Peter

As noted, I am a complete noveice with sumps, and I am trying to make the one I have just been given operational.

It is currently draining from tank through centre holes onto both sponge and volcanic rock/bio ball medium, then into the main body of the sump. There isno dividing wall, and the pick up for the pump just comes from the base, therefore I wanted to make a "chamber" for the inlet to the pump, and provide it with one last filter before being pumped back into the main tank.

Dont know if this is cool or not, but if anyone has any advice, please let me know.

cheers
