asxu
I recently bought a four foot tank from Aquariums 'R' Us, yet to get it fully set up, there are three partitions each seperated by glass that's silicone in. Is it possible to just cut it out with a Stanley knife or something? What's the easiest way to take out the excess silicone?

asxu
Shouldn't matter too much as it's just a breeding tank - thanks for the heads up though.
kenster
Hey Tim, Drop by next time, I will lend you a scraper. They take just about anything off the glass. Regards, Ken

asxu
Am thinking that cutting one of the partitions will be better for breeding bristlenose, will give them around 48W x 76D x 48H (cm) rather then 48W x 38D x 48H (cm). Allows me to keep a bigger colony too, rather then just pairs or trios.

FishHeadSoup
Stanley knife will be fine as mentioned just work it from both sides until u get the bulk of it then slide the blade between... its a bit of effort but it does the trick! ANCISTRUS
try not to scratch the glass as the tank may break. get some fine piano wire (wear gloves). safer than a stanley knife (and more effective)

noyakfat
i will avoid the repercussions of saying, "first find yourself a piano"... a cheap way may be to go to a music store and ask for a busted guitar string?
FishHeadSoup
As a guitarist that wouldn't work mate there all too thick with the possible exception of the high E string but i wouldn't like to try and saw my way through anything with that u can buy piano wire from ur local hardware store (for hanging pictures). or even try trace wire for fishing at ur local tackle shop Great Idea BTW :whoa: wish id thought of it years ago
ANCISTRUS
any thin wire will do, picture hanging wire, fuse wire, trace line (as mentioned) try a hardware. If you do use a stanley knife try the blue irwin blades, they are unbreakable. It can be a lot harder than it looks with a stanley knife.

(that's what I used to suspend my lighting system). Yeah the guitar string was almost as stupid as saying "go find yourself a piano"
mad-n-angry
a stanley knife is easy i do it all the time to clean up glass from repairs to using old tanks to refit into a sump just use a good sharp blade and take ya time as 1 small slip can cause lots of pain and suffering as a smart arsed comment was made earlier about the accident i had
