G'day, what's this fish?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

We got some flooding in Ayr at the moment and I collected this fish from a creek. Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks for a great resource. I've been lurking and got some good tips.

hope its just the one, some quotes from a blue gourami profile page.

"Blue Gouramis are among the hardiest aquarium fish on the market"

"Outside of its native range, it has been introduced in Sulawesi, Philippines, Taiwan, Papua New Guinea, the islands of Reunion, Seychelles, Namibia, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Colombia."

"It is not unusual for the number of eggs produced to reach into the thousands."

there is an established feral population of  3 spot blue gourami in the Ross River,Lower Burdekin River ,Sheepstation Creek.....maybe its one of them

that's no good, they can survive the temps down here too. ive read of africans and even discus in ross river but I only caught spangled perch and banded grunter, and of course tilapia.

I got it at Plantation creek Ayr. Is in the lower Burdekin River system. There were hundreds on the bank washed up by the trucks going through. Popularly must have bloomed due to the floods.

G'day joller,

I went and caught another two gourami.

I should take the net and see what else is in the puddles left after the floods have receded.
