# 3.    But could do with a heap of improvements in my humble opinion.

Could you let me know what improvements you make Mackayman so I can look at them before I silicon the baffles in cheers.

I personally would lose the bubble trap and move the baffle so that the chambers are equidistant . Then able to fit more (different) media in as the water flows "up" one chamber and "down" the other.

Are you using some sort of water spreader where it enters the sump ?

Have a look here. http://www.qldaf.com/topic/18432-your-sump-pics-here/page/2/

I have post starting toward the bottom of the page showing my sum. I has been running non stop for 8 years now with absolutely zero issues .

Not saying my ways the only way, but it works well for me.

Cheers :)

How come the dacron goes at the top? Wouldn't it be better to do coarse to fine sponge and then dacron to get the last smaller particles.

hi @mortie

Simply Dacron is cheap and easy to replace so you can catch almost all of the junk before it gets into all the other area of the sump. Leaving easy sump cleaning to replacing Dacron every few weeks instead of having to clean all the sponge/jap mat etc more often

I hope i explained that well enough

Cheers

Fine filter paper (about 50m long) on automated rollers are available for sumps if you want fine particulates removed but don't want to be constantly changing dacron or cleaning filter socks. I havent tried them. Google for info and reviews.

Doesn't that make the use of sponge pointless then. The hole purpose of fine and coarse is to filter certain size particles.  Thats just my opinion.
