Great for fry tanks.

Get a block of foam sponge (square, round whatever), and cut a centre thru the middle (just cut a cross). Grab a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe or whatever pipe an airstone will fit neatly into.

Cut the pipe to a length a little over the length of your block of foam, then drill a number of small holes thru the PVC (~0.1" dia/hole), but not too many holes all up.

Stick the drilled pipe thru the middle of your foam, sit upright in your tank with an attached airstone inside the pipe at the bottom - and there's you sponge filter!

On the subject of foam, where do you guys buy it from? I went to clarke rubber and the prices are crazy, $8 odd for a square foot of 2.5cm foam.

I was going to buy a bunch of it for my sump filter but not at that price...

Any suggestions ?

I used to buy it bulk for my work, in 8' x 4' x 4" sheets, wholesale price was still about $60-$70 a sheet. :(

So Clark Rubber seems to be the best around that I know of, unless you know someone at a furniture factory or somewhere.

A nother way is to get a block of filter from from your lfs

And put it in to a container that just covers it then put it in the freezer

Than you can get a drill but the size u need and just drill a hole 2/3 of the way in

Leave it out in the sun easy lol
