Spot lighting at night is the way to go.

If a creek has Rhads, you'll seem them hanging around the surface, their distinctive body shape is easy to spot when you get an eye for it.

The less moon the better.

Just scoop up the ones you want.

All the glasshouse mountains streams have them, but I haven't seen them in tibrogargan (I have only looked in the pools near the rest area though). 

For something a bit different, you need to sample creeks north of Noosa.
