Peppermint, orange spot, common and albino b/nose

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just a quick question, if you were trying to breed all of the above and only had limited tank space, which of these, Peppermint, orange spot, common and albino b/nose could you house and breed succesfully in the same tanks, any help would be appreciated, thanks Andy

Well as far as I know, peppermints and orange spots will only spawn with their own species, however you will more than likely get your commons and albinos mixing and matching as they are technically the same. (albinos are just missing the skin pigment thing) depending on how big your tank is I wouldnt think it to be a problem. Maybe some of the hybrid haters would disagree.

hi andy yes is always a chance of x breeding pep & orange spot so not advisable :egrin: and any males in the same tank will fight but i have only lost 1 as a result the little guy got stuck in the b log and big one kill him got his bristles up under his stomach :perplex:

Hi Zane, yeah I dont want any cross breeding, just wondering if you could keep and breed o/spot and pepps in the same tank or would there be problems (cross breeding/fighting etc)

And thanks for your reply Zane :)

how big is the tank you are planning on using u can always divide it using some egg crate then have your 2 species in the same tank and the fry and go between the 2 sides

the bigger the tank u have the more stable your water quality is

so by using egg crate to divide it its the same volume of water and no need for 2 heaters and 2 filters and its still only 1 water change

I had a pair of peppermints and orange spots in a 20 gallon. There was no fighting, but no breeding either. So I say just give them seperate tanks if you want them to breed, but if you have limited tank space, you can keep them together while you can organise some more.
