japes
They're good food but I wouldn't recommend it, could have any number of parasites etc.

whiteknight
taking anything from a creek and putting it into your tank runs the risks of numbers of diferent diseases , so wouldnt reconmend it Terry
hareysfish
ive always done it ,with no problems at all. i find most shrimp are a lot cleaner then fish from the creeks they clean themselves all the time as well as shed their old shells . the only thing i sometimes do is put them into some of your tank water so none of the creek water gets into your tank before feeding to your fish. Eric A
I agree with above. I have no problem putting shrimp and yabbies in my tanks, I just NEVER put the creek water in with them.
Baxta
I agree with it two above. Ive done it a few times with no problems. I jsut make sure that no creek water gets in the tank
trippa02
And I'm going to agree aswell with the top 3, never had any problems just dont put the creek water in with it, also one of them was to big to be eaten and is still alive in one of my tanks
david1991
can i just pull some water out of one of my tanks and put it in a bucket and just pick the shrimp up and and place them in the bucket to get the creek water off them sort of thing??? hareysfish
mate you can do that or if you have a spare tank , put them into it for a day or two, but i usually just put the shrimp into a bucket with tank water for an hr or two and feed them to the fish afterwards.hth
mad-n-angry
i tip them into a large net shake any water off and the frenzy starts about 1/2 a second after they hit the water or more the point as i lift the lid and im almost certain they know if im coming to the tank with a net its shrimp feed time
whiteknight
just my opinion i would at least give the shrimp a week b4 adding ( having them in fresh water ) as its not the only the water u need to worry about its what they carry on the inside and outside of them , that way u give them time to get some new water into them , this is just my opinion on this but if u have a nice display tank with $100's of dollars worth of fish are u really willing to risk them to save a small amount of money?? each to there own but u cant always see what your fish are catching , u wouldnt buy a fish and add it straight to your tank without quarenteening it would u?? anyway good luck with it Terry
mad-n-angry
terry pending on who i get the fish from i would have to say i dont think i have put any new fish into a quarantine tank unless its from the auctions but as i help out at most auctions i can find out who the fish come from and i know to check them or just add them
whiteknight
yer its good to know the people u get the fish from but my piont is straight from a creek to your fish tank isnt a good idea who knows whats in there that's all, seen great fish that some people have had die all because they added fish/shrimp from creeks just to save a few bucks , yes many might have done it number of times with no hassels but you cant see every thing that is going into your tank , each to there own but i would rather know what is going into my tanks. dragonbreath
ill tell you somthing whitenight i have been taking shrimp from the creeks for 4 years now never had a problem mate and i have alot of expensive fish but i went to the pet shop at pine rivers and holy shit i got some shrimp from there and they were shitty and disgusting shrimps so as i said and i agree with the other fellows that creek shrimps rule cheers mark
whiteknight
as i said each to there own , but u will always have a risk doing it thats my piont , if u want to feed your fish things from a local creek great , but if u ever pick some thing up some day only one person to blame , anyway this is just my opinion so will leave this subject now for those who are wanting to do it Terry

ausnative
PINE RIVERS=big mistake as far as shrimp from the creek goes i have been doing it for years myself. i just make sure its from a non polluted looking creek(usually dayboro) a little further out in the bush where the creeks are much cleaner. when i get them home i put them in a tank with a small amount of treatment for any disease and then use them about 48 hours later. never had a problem but have had friends feed shrimp from dirty suburban creeks and loose there fish so find a clean waterway and see how you go.
