raycam01_au
im sorry guy's but im gunna say it anyways, i hate and I MEAN HATE when people get on pissing upstream about shops being over priced bla bla bla, without these shops in play you would not get 99% of the stuff you guys get from time to time, ever heard of overheads in running a business Eric?? man i dont know whether your asses are tighter than a seals or what it is, i watch when stuff goes up for sale, then everyone bashes it down or wants it for nothing!!! everyone crys when a shop goes out of business and says what a shame bla bla bla, but they are mostly trying make a living just like everyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry if this seems alittle agressive but jesus, get the hell over yourselves!!! get out and buy a business, have a go, then we will see how long it takes u to whinge about prices. the one thing u gotta remember if you want something you pay for it, and if its good quality and the service is there, i odnt give a shit how much it costs, Eric this is not aimed directly at you, but as stated it pisses me off bigtime, i know alot of shop owners and they are juss like us believe it or not, love the hobby but trying to keep food on the tables also. FAIR GO, support em, dont piss em off!!!!!!!!!!! enough said
Pepperoni
Aren't you the one crying? Why would anyone pay for overpriced when they don't have to? When did we become charity to local pet stores?
raycam01_au
how u doin pizzaboy nah matey im never crying cause im always having fun, i pay whatever i need to pay and if its for something i need i dont give a rats ass how much it costs, overpriced is in the eye of the beholder, what u class as overpriced i might think is very fairly priced etc etc The eggcrate in question is very fairly priced from a shop that is awesome and from an Owner who is a fantastic bloke, the hobby would be nothing if these people were not in it. so pizzaboy, all is good in the world

Fish Junkie
Last time I was after eggcrate I went to smiths. Great stuff as you can unsnap it and snap it back so its reusable only thing I found is when you span a two foot tank and an American Cichlid wants to get to the female the eggcrate comes off second. For this reason I have hunted far and wide and think I have found a supply of eggcrate that is moulded in one piece. If so I will be selling a few sheets on this forum as I know some of you also keep big fish and wonder if you have had simular problems Junkie
Eric A
man i dont know whether your asses are tighter than a seals or what it is Thats pretty damn close for my situation. But i'm not tight by choice, I need to be otherwise I wouldn't be enjoying (and hating) this hobby. So i'm sorry.
raycam01_au
Eric me little matey, there are so many ways to do things on the cheap to ensure you dont have to HATE this hobby, when i fist started many many many moons ago all my filters were the old icecream filters, buckets sitting on top of tanks, with an old powerhead feeding them, 100000000 miles of black poly pipe getting pumped up on the roof for heating in summer, the old pot bellied stove i had years ago was a classic etc etc etc. I just dont think rattling off a statement like the one you made about a fantastic shop is warranted. The amount of great advice and sound help given out to people in this hobby from that one shop mentioned in my mind outways any pricing issue you may have, and again whats expensive for you may not be for alot of others, and the amount of work that goes back into the hobby from the likes of the former owner Bill and current owner Mark again in my mind is a wonderful thing. so i hope this explains my little rant The way i look at things if i see an add and i cant afford it, hell i aint gunna buy it
Eric A
Well nothing you say makes the price go any lower, the thing is, Smith's IS overpriced. Yes it is a very good shop, clean, modern, great variety, everything you could ever need (eggcrate included), and very knowledgble staff, but I just don't see why it should be more expensive than any other shop. I could understand 5-10% more expensive, but not 20%. That crazy. (Fx5 for example, $650 at smiths, $400 at other places)
raycam01_au
I see you understand business well sunshine, so let me get this straight every business in every country should be identical???? or lets say Australia, should be identical, interesting concept, so demographics, rent, wages, electricity, Loans, etc etc etc etc etc never change for any of these businesses? they are all identical so hence they should have all the same products at the same price all the time??? man thats awesome, where do i go to get to this fairy land,,,,, or do i juss keep snorting smack???? dude wake up and smell the coffee ffs, that was the most piss poor effort of an arguement i have ever seen in my life,,,,,,,, transfer your mentality to all businesses across australia, honestly mate if you cant understand why some are dearer and some are cheaper just for the hell of it apart from on costs then all is lost,,,,,,,,, i am going to go have a coffee,,, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! eric ya little nude doofus, i love ya like a little mooo cow :cloppy: just before it innocently heads into the slaughterhouse :soppy: :cloppy: :soppy: :cloppy: :soppy: :cloppy: :soppy: :cloppy: :soppy: :cloppy:

Wetpetz
I'm 100% with Ray. I've bought egg crate from Mark. I know I don't ever check a price, because whatever it costs, I know it's fair. Isn't it better to have trust in the store owner and not do price surveys for everything? xysti53
Just to add to Rays comments. Mark like Bill before him also supports the hobby in a lot of different ways from giving discounts to Club members, (As a member of the Qld Cichlid Group, A.N.G.F.A and Qld Aquarium Hobbyists I get a discount from Smith's Aquarium and some other shops) to sponorships of the different shows. Mark recently confirmed that Smith's Aquarium will sponsor the Degisn and Technique Class at the Caboolture Show for another three years.  Smith's Aquarium has had three owners, the original shop (can't remembet whar it was called) was set up by Steve Baines then Bill Smith bought it and operated it for about 15years now Mark Swan is the owner. Each of these people has been and still are very active members of clubs and the hobby in general , not like 80% of other owners who are only interested in Business. I do not believe I would call them overpriced for a shop, but then I am NOT comparing them to prices on the forum or at auctions. To do so shows a total lack of any common sense at all. Also there are dry goods only stores whose prices are allways going to be cheaper than stores that have livestock because they do not have the same overheads to keep livestock alive. I support local shops as much as possible, more so when like Smith's they support the clubs and the hobby. Graeme
Eric A
Okay I take back the statement about Smith's being overpriced. Went to a different shop for some bloodworm today, two packs for $12, wtf.
