Hello, my Tandanus Catfish has these odd white Sores/blotches marks on his sides. I do see him scrape against the gravel sometimes, wondering if this is serious? or are they scrapes? He seems to be constantly breathing quickly compared to the other fish.

Sorry for the poor picture.

Will try for a better one shortly.

He is eating fine and is as active as these guys get id say.

Since taking the picture a week ago he has gotten a few more. Is it an infection of some kind? :( None of the other fish in the tank have the problem.

Do they look like flesh wounds? or is it just the skin? Anything growing off them? Any discolouration besides the whiteness of the sore?

If not then its probable that he has hurt himself on a piece of driftwood or something, their upper body skin is not as tough as their belly skin.

One thing thats a bit weird is that the markings are All Circular, signs of a bacterial infection.

Put some Aquarium salt in the tank (1 Tablespoon Per 40 Litres), Raise the temp to 29 (Which shouldnt be hard in this weather) and keep Airation to a maximum.

See how he goes.....

Mabye some other members could have some input.....

check your ph champ. are you using rainwater at all? i'd say probably red spot disease, its a bacterial infection that turns up all the time in the richmond its caused by low pH from the acid sulfate soils and high organic loads add to the problem.

so i'd test your pH, raise it and buffer it as well as mayb a gravel clean. there's a few medications available to help clear up bacterial infections as well, just better to do it without them in my opinion.

cheers

Ok, I'll use your method hopefully it works.

Is the infection contagious? No other fish seem to be affected?
